It was quiet for a while. Seconds, if not minutes, passed by in complete silence. You could hear the wind rushing through the trees, through the old cracks in the big, wooden mansion. Every sound you had grown to be accustomed to over the weeks or months you had been in here, were perceived clearly.

All those familiar creaks, hisses and booms which had scared you the minute you were trapped in this deadly house didn't feel as intimidating anymore. Instead... They felt mundane. A part of the life you were now living. They reminded you of the grotesque things that had happened between these walls.

The abusing, sexual harassing and screaming.

The cries, the yelling, the begging...

But they also reminded you of the safety you somehow had experienced in here. Of how you knew that outside of this door would be a far crueler fate awaiting you... if you ever dared to leave, or had the chance to for that matter.

The silence which was once uncomfortable and painful was now your best friend. You needed it, you craved for it in order to gather your thoughts and put your mind back together. It was a vital instrument to keep you alive... To keep you sane because thanks to it... You could think.

You had learned to use its power in the nick of time, instead of fearing it.

You still held Jeff's hand, letting your warmth soar through his body by your touch. You wanted him to feel your heartbeat, to feel your warmth. Showing him that every word which came out of your mouth had been truthful.

And that he needed to do the same if he wished to see you alive.

The only doubt remained on that last part, not knowing if he was willing to throw his pride and sadistic nature away for a few seconds. Those few seconds which could save your being and so of many others to come.

You felt Jeff squeezing your hand slightly. Your gaze was still focused on his, wondering if he was really willing to let himself go for your sake. You returned his gentle squeeze with one of your own, trying to support him and encourage him to take the last step.

You were so close.

Another moment of silence passed without any other sounds than the ones you heard before. His eyes seemed to stare right through you, as if fixated on a spot on the dirty wall. Your existence wasn't recognized other than the light crunch in your hand.

You then felt his grip loosening by the seconds, feeling the cool air slipping between the cracks of your skin. Your hand felt sweaty and cold as you allowed Jeff's one to slip out of it, seeing that he was trying to distance himself.

He took in a deep breath, his eyes averting your gaze completely.

He turned around, slowly walking over to the bed before he sat down onto it, his head immediately covered by his hands. His long, black hair fell over the paper white skin and he seemed to be extremely vulnerable in that position.

You stood there for another second, watching him as he continued to shelter his face from your view. He didn't speak or give you any notice that he was willing to answer you. Completely unsure if you should sit down next to him, somewhat comfort him enough so that he would tell you, or keep standing there you shuffled on both feet uncomfortably.

For all you know, it could turn the other way around.

Before you had a chance to decide what to do next, he raised his head. His lidless orbs stared at you with new-found fire, but it was different from the fire you had seen before. Different from the lust he displayed for your very being.
