Your breathing hitched immediately, only a high, soft squeak came from your mouth as you heard the familiar click. The 'click' sound heard when something opens, when you've got the right code. The sound heard when you've finally retrieved something important.
You breathlessly looked up, facing Hoodie who stood there in complete silence. Your head turned towards the masked killer, whose mask was only focused on the box. You wondered whether they had heard the click too. But it was best not to wait any longer. You've felt what they could do to you when angered or impatient.
Without any more hesitation, you moved your hand over towards the small metal box. Even though you were certain you had heard the click, you were still extremely nervous. Your heartbeat was felt in your fingers as you tried to keep it steady from the uncontrollably shaking.
You knew you had heard the click. It was the right code; it had to be the right code... What if you had imagined it? What if there never was a click after all? Argh! You needed to stop thinking like that. It would only cost you time, time which you simply didn't have.
Masky was impatient and you yourself too. You needed to open the box quickly. There was only one way to find out whether the code was right. You slowly touched the box carefully, your finger placed on the small knob which had to be pushed in order to open the box.
When you applied pressure to the small, black knob, it indeed was pushed forward. A wave of relief washed over you as you let out a soft sigh. It opened... While a few drips of sweat were rolling off of your forehead you pushed the knob even further, until it couldn't be pushed anymore.
Another small' click' was heard and you saw the cover of the box slightly popping up, leaving one deep and black slit indicating that it was open. It was open. IT WAS OPEN. The thing which had caused you tons of troubles. The thing which got you kidnapped and tortured in the first place.
The reason why Lola was dead and your friends captured.
It opened.
All the tension flooded from your body as if you were bleeding. All the horror, the fear and the uncertainty got smacked away with one single blow. You felt your whole body getting all warm and fuzzy inside as your eyesight became blurry.
You wanted to cry of happiness. You wanted to get on your bare knees and thank the god above for giving you this hint. The box had opened and your friends would be freed. You did it... You did it all. You had sacrificed yourself for a greater good.
"Is it open?" The dark and menacing voice of the hooded man brought you back to reality. You furrowed your eyebrows out of confusion as you looked at the hooded man across the table. Of course it was open, didn't he hear the click? Can't he see?
And then it had hit you. A gruesome chill ran over your spine as you felt the blood retreating from your face. All the relief and lack of tension felt were washed away as snow melting in the sun. The box opened... But they don't need the box do they?
The fucking blueprint!
They need the fucking blueprint. The box is totally useless to them. Yes, you had opened it. Yes, you finally had cracked the code they longed for so much but you had no idea whatever was in it. What is Lola's father already took it out of the box? Leaving it there to give these killers false hope?
Your concentration immediately returned to your body as you stared at the box again. It's open. It's indeed open but you don't know what's inside. With a heavy heart your fingers had pried themselves in between the cover and the box. What if it wasn't in there?
