Jamie
After she got off of me, my cell started ring. I dug into my pockets and pulled out my phone to check out the caller I.D. Great, it was my mom so I had to answer or face hell when I got home.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Jamie, where are you?"
"I'm at Sax's house, I'll be home by 9:00."
"Alright then, goodbye."
I hung up the phone and looked at the time. It was 8:00 meaning I had an hour to hang out with Sax. I turn to look at her and saw that she was laying on her bed with one arm behind her head and the other was flicking through channels. I had to admit that she looked really cute just laying there. I walked over and jumped onto the bed with her.
"So who is it?" she asked in the silence.
"Psh, I'm not telling you."
"But...Please? I'll love you forever." she said with a pout.
"I think I'm good."
"Fine, be that way, I don't love you anymore." she said as I started laughing.
Not long after she started laughing with me. We were laughing so hard that we didn't hear the front door open or the sound of feet stomping up the stairs. What we did notice was her bedroom door flying open. We stopped laughing and turned our heads to her a door and saw a man that had short black hair and was at least 6'5. He was clearly drunk just by the way he was stumbling.
"Sax, what the fuck are you doing up so late?" he slurred.
"Dad, it's only 8:30." I heard her say but her voice was weak.
All he did was glare at her and the stumble off in another direction. I turned to look at Sax who was putting her shoes back.
"C'mon, we should probably start walking if we want to get you home on time."
"You don't have to walk me, I can walk home by myself." I said as I put my shoes on.
"I know, but that doesn't mean I'll let you." she said with a smile.
After I gathered all my stuff, we headed down the stairs and out the door into the night. Halfway through our walk I decided to break the silence that filled the air.
"What's up with your dad?" I asked.
"Nothing really, he just likes to drink I guess. Then again, everyone does once in awhile." she said sounding sensitive.
"Yeah but nobody just glares at their kid for no reason."
"I guess it's because he doen't like me very much." she said with ease.
I knew this conversation wasn't making her comfortable because her answers were short so I just dropped it. When my house finally came into view I turned to hug Sax goodbye.
"Bye Sax, I love ya." I said waving to her as she walked away.
"Love ya to Jamie."

One week, that's how long it's been since I told Sax that I like a girl and she hasn't payed any attention to it which I am glad about. But she wasn't here today, which means I'm sitting here alone in science go on and on about chemical reactions or something like that. His talking was interrupted by the sound of the classroom door opening and of course everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to who it was. In walked Sax wearing gray skinny jeans, an Asking Alexandria band tee and a black hoodie that had a white zipper. She handed Mr.Haller her excuse pass and made here way over to me. She looked normal but something was off about her but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Science went by fairly quickly with few words exchanged between me and her. Now I knew something was up. Right when the bell rang I grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the nearest bathroom. Once we go in I checked each stall to make sure that they were empty before returning to Sax.
"Okay, what's up?" I ask straight forward.
"Nothing." she mumbles avoiding eye contact.
"Then why are you acting like this? Is it because I told you that I like a girl?"
"No! It has nothing to do with that." she said meeting my eyes for the first time.
"Then what is it?" I ask softly.
I look to see her eyes watering and that's when I noticed that she was wearing cover up. That's weird, Sax was always a girl who hated using makeup. Even in school plays she wouldn't let anyone put makeup on her. I turned to go into one of the stalls and grabbed so toilet paper then back to the sink to wet it. I turned to her and saw that she had a questioning look on her face.
"Hold still." I say as I slowly start to wipe off the cover up. I started with the right side of her face and as I was cleaning it off I noticed that she had nothing to hide and that her skin was literally flawless, so why would she need to wear the cover up? Once I made my way to her left eye she started wincing and I noticed the dark purple ring around her eye. I quickly but gently finished cleaning it off and threw the used toilet paper away. I took her face in my hand and examined her eye. It was really painful just to look at.
"Who did this to you?" I asked, angry at whoever would do this to such a wonderful person. When I got no answer I started to think and list all of the people who would harm Sax but only one person came into mind.
"Did your dad do this?" I asked barely above a whisper. When I got no answer I forced her to look me in the eyes. All I saw was pure sadness and not even a hint of the joy that everyone was used to. That was all I needed for an answer. I pulled her into a hug and held her as if she were going to disappear. I pretty sure the bell rang but I didn't care.
"You need to tell somebody." I say as I pull away.
"No, I don't. I'm fine." she says sternly.
"No you're not fine. Sax, look at yourself." I say gesturing to her eye.
"I promise that I'm fine." she says with the most sincere look. I couldn't argue with it.
"Sax, you can't let him do this to you." I say barely above a whisper.
"I don't, it was just slip up and it won't happen again."
"Okay, but only for now. If it ever happens again then I swear to god that I will tell somebody after I kill him. Alright?" I say meaning every word. She just nodded and gave me another hug.
"Well we're late anyways, wanna ditch and got to the park?" she ask as we walk out of the bathrooms.
"Sure." I say as we check for hall monitors and sneak out the side doors of our school and head to a local park that was a 10 minute walk away. Other than a few words here and there, the walk to the park was silent. Every once in a while I couldn't help but look out of the corner of my eye at her black eye. It really pissed me off, it made me want to go to her dad and just beat the shit out of him. When we got to the park nobody was there because school was still going on. I walked over to a big tree that has been at the park since forever. I sat down and she followed. She looked tired and completely drained. She didn't sit for long because she decided to lay down and put her head in my lap.
"Sax?"
"Hmm?" she was clearly about to fall asleep, how cute.
"Promise me that you'll come straight to me if that ever happens again."
"I promise." she said but it was more of a whisper.
"Sax?" I didn't get a response this time except for a light snore. I laughed at ho childish she looked when she was sleeping. I leaned down and gently kissed her forehead.
"I love you"
