The ThunderClan cats fell silent the second that Dewpaw and Bellypaw set foot into the camp. Bellypaw glared at them and led Dewpaw up to Thrushstar's den. Before he walked in, he heard many yells being thrown. His mother, Sorrelwind, stalked out of the den, but before she left the ledge, she burst into tears and ran into the nursery. Bellypaw and Dewpaw exchanged glances before Bellypaw called into the den.

"Thrushstar? May I come in?" Bellypaw called into the den, Dewpaw looking over his shoulder as the brown tabby walked out.

"Come in, Bellypaw, my son," He said, not even noticing the RiverClan medicine cat. "Come in, with your favorite father."

"Um, you're my only father, Thrushstar." Bellypaw was confused, and he was feeling the same as Dewpaw at the moment.

Dewpaw leaned over and whispered to Bellypaw. "Is he always this... I dunno, I guess competitive?"

"No. I don't know what's got him like that! It's probably connected to why Sorrelwind was crying." Bellypaw shrugged, following Thrushstar.

Dewpaw flicked her tail and also followed. Thrushstar sat in his nest, his eyes dull compared to their usual brightness. Bellypaw gulped, but stayed silent as Dewpaw stepped forward.

"Thrushstar, may I ask you a huge favor? It's for RiverClan." Dewpaw began, and Thrushstar lifted his sad eyes.

"What do you need?" He snapped.

Dewpaw took a step back, her neck fur bristling . She tried her best to relax, but it was hard with a leader staring you down so hard. Bellypaw narrowed his eyes at his father's anger. What was bugging him?

"Sorry to intrude, but RiverClan needs your help..." Dewpaw trailed off as Thrushstar snorted. "Uh, Thrushstar ?"

"Ha ha ha! Well, I think Thrushstar's tired, Dewpaw, we can just discuss this with Oakpelt! Right, Thrushstar?" Bellypaw laughed nervously, shoving Dewpaw out of the den.

While Bellypaw talked to Thrushstar, Dewpaw waited outside of the den with a frown. Thoughts were flying in her head, most revolving around one thing. Did I say something that made him mad? She paced around, a few of the ThunderClan cats stared at her, but Dewpaw paid no mind. My first time talking to a leader and I mess up! She thought miserably.

"I always mess up!" She groaned, stomping her paws in frustration and embarrassment.

"No you don't." Someone said from behind her.

It was Sandpaw, the same blank expression as always. Dewpaw gulped, taking a step back.

"You heard me?" Dewpaw gulped.

"Watching you, actually. Lost in thoughts? And how did you 'mess up'?" Sandpaw said, sitting down and licking her paw.

"Oh, it's nothing." Dewpaw said, shifting on her paws. "I'm just waiting for Bellypaw."

A few moments passed by with complete silence beside the occasional chatter of ThunderClan. Bellypaw walked out of the den to see the two she-cats staring at each other intensely. Sandpaw glared at Dewpaw, and Dewpaw trembled under her fierce eyes.

"Sandpaw, stop scaring her!" Bellypaw had walked out of Thrushstar's den.
