I walked aimlessly around the hospital, glad that my MRI was over. I didn't know where I was heading but I kept walking around. Autumn was asleep because she was still a bit tired from her surgery and from our bucket list adventures, or so I liked to call them. Paul, Autumn and I did get in a bit of trouble for what we did. That part wasn't very fun.
I felt content and for once I actually felt like a normal person; like I wasn't dying or anything. Normal. I had no plans in mind for the long day ahead of me but walking around the hospital seemed good enough to me.
Suddenly, I heard a very familiar voice yelling at another very familiar voice. I stopped in my tracks and tried to make out what they were both saying. I couldn't hear much but I knew it had to be my doctor and someone else arguing. I tried to locate the source of the sound and when I stopped in front of the group therapy room, I was a bit surprised.
"He is not okay and you are not doing anything to help him!" I heard Autumn yell.
"I am doing my best but you have to understand that there is nothing more that I can do," I heard my doctor say back in a calm manner.
Why was Autumn talking to my doctor?
"What do you mean there is nothing more that you can do?" she yelled again. "You're a doctor, you have to fix him!"
"Has he told you yet?" the doctor asked.
"Told me what?" Autumn seemed to immediately calm down, interested in what the doctor had to say.
"I think you should talk to him," he said.
I let out a sigh of relief, grateful that he decided not to tell Autumn. If she was going to hear it, she was going to hear it from me.
I had to tell her.
