Penny:

It had been three days since MAD did any kind of attack, and missions were slow. I couldn't sleep properly.

I lay awake in the dark, my head a buzzing mess of thoughts. I tossed and turned but couldn't shake them from my head.

Seeing that my efforts to fall asleep were useless, I got up and stretched a bit. Brain lay snoring in a corner, so I stepped outside into the cool night air and felt a light breeze brush over my face.

I leaned on the apartment balcony, drinking in the air of the night.

I stared up at a sky illuminated by the moon and listened to the sounds of the city around me.

Suddenly my codex beeped behind me, and I stepped back inside to check it. An intruder was in one of our bases.

I checked the time. Half past midnight. No one else would be awake at this time, so I decided to sort it out myself.

I pulled on some jeans and grabbed my scooter from the garage. I drove to the marked base and stepped in with my phaser gun.

I could hear someone wandering around. They weren't making an effort to be sneaky, so it wasn't hard to track them down.

I stopped against a curve, and I knew they were just around the bend. I took in a silent breath and whipped around the corner, my gun cocked at the back of their head.

"Put your hands where I can see them." I barked, and he jumped at my voice.

"Penny?" I immediately recognised that voice, and I lowered my gun.

"Talon?!" I hissed in surprise.

He whipped his cap off and turned around to face me. "Good evening." He said with a charming smile.

I slapped a hand over his mouth. "Not another word. Follow me." I whispered, and he nodded. I lead him outside and took him to where my scooter stood and had him climb on behind me.

The moment we were off, I started scolding him. "Are you completely stupid?" I yelled.

"No, I'm barking mad." Excuse the pun.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"I had to come see you."

"Damn it Talon! Do you know how incredibly stupid that was? What if it wasn't me who turned up here? What if it had been another agent who would have stunned your ass at first glance?"

"And yet here you are, driving me away." He said and winked.

"Still doesn't excuse your stupid behaviour."

"I thought it worth the risk."

"Are you aware of how infuriating you can be?"

"Sometimes."

I doubled the speed of the scooter, and Talon gripped his arms even tighter around me. "Feel familiar?" He whispered in my ear.

"Don't push your luck." I said, but I was smiling.
