During the walk home, Tyler couldn't stop staring at Josh, which made Josh blush, making Tyler stare more.
They settled under a tree at a nearby park, shivering from the brisk air.
Tyler laid himself on Josh's legs, making the blue haired boy chuckle.
"Wanna play 20 questions?"
He just nodded and started playing with the tan boy's hair.
"Oookayy, how many colors have you dyed your hair?"
"Like, every color of the rainbow."
"Woah."
After a few seconds, Tyler mumbled something.
"What?"
He sighed and said it a bit louder.
"You look good with blue hair."
Josh looked at Tyler and grinned. "Thanks, TyJo."
"No problem, Jishwa."
"Ewww, that nickname is gross. It makes me sound like a teddy bear."
"You are a teddy bear."
Josh just hummed in agreement.
They both laughed. The air was still, and they basked in the comfortable silence that covered them like a blanket.
Until they heard a scream.
..Coming from Jenna's house.
They bursted out with laughter, remembering their prank from before.
"Guess she found the toilet paper."
"Yup."
They laid there until their giggles settled down, joining the silence yet again. After a few beats, Tyler spoke.
"Josh?"
"Y-yeah?"
"Why were you running?"
The older boy stared at him, confused. "What?"
"That night I almost hit you with my car. Why were you running?"
Josh looked at hands and laughed nervously. "W-well, my parents were- "
Tyler groaned and clutched his side. A sharp pain rippled throughout his chest, like a rock had been shoved in between his ribs.
"What? Ty, what's wrong?"
He coughed a little bit into his sleeve and offered a weak smile.
"I'm alright, Jish. Probably heartburn or something."
He failed to mention the dark red stain he left on his sweater when he coughed.
