“The only thing that came up was Kendra Sabine Selwynn, Severus; she was an old decrepit witch who committed suicide in the name of a pureblood wizarding society eleven years ago.”
Severus looked at Kingsley patiently: “Any children?”
“One: a daughter. No one knows what happened to her. But I’m afraid that your Lorrelaine is too young to be the daughter of Kendra Selwynn. I’d be more thrilled about the fact that Mulciber and Travers have been reported as dead, that's at least a useful information.”
There was a slight amusement In Kingsley’s voice that Severus wasn’t particularly excited about.
“She’s not my Lorrelaine,” he hissed at him but he still knew that something changed. Severus looked out of the window of Dumbledore’s office and wondered where could she be right now; Lorrelaine was gone for two months by now.
Her disappearance caused a stir among Death Eaters but Voldemort didn’t seem concerned at the last meeting held in the Malfoy Manor.
“Lorrelaine is free to go about as she wishes,” he said to the group. “I know where she is and she will come back when I call her, which is more than I could say for the most of you.”
Severus felt a kick under the table and looked at Lucius:
“What really happened in Bangkok?” he asked curiously. “Skip the part where she killed Karkaroff of course.”
He knew that Lucius would be anxious to know whether he got any closer to Lorrelaine but whatever he learned wasn’t for Lucius’ ears. Or anyone else’s.
Severus was quite aware of the looks many Death Eaters were throwing in his direction; even though Bellatrix Lestrange made it back from Azkaban, the group of Death Eaters was still lacking Lorrelaine’s feminine presence and he was the one who got blamed for it. Severus realized that the previous meetings were almost enjoyable thanks to her.
It took a while before the meeting ended and Severus made an attempt to wonder off unnoticed.
“Snape!”
The tone of his voice stopped him. “What do I owe the pleasure Yaxley?”
Yaxley walked up close.
“I want to know what happened in Bangkok that’s now keeping Lorrelaine away,” he ordered.
Severus raised his eyebrows:
“She killed Karkaroff and left before I could wake up on Monday morning. She left a note; I said all of that in my introductory report though.”
Yaxley grimaced: ”Yes you did give all of us an incredible description of the note:’ Severus, I’m leaving early and plan to stay away from some time. Please report to the Dark Lord and excuse my absence. I shall indeed come should he require my presence. Thank you, Lorrelaine’. You even handed that piece of paper over but why did she leave?”
“She didn’t say; obviously,” shrugged Severus and prepared to turn around. Yaxley grabbed him by the cloak.
“Don’t make an idiot out of me Snape; I’m asking what happened between you and Lorrelaine that caused this. And don’t even think about giving me some bullshit story Snape, the first place where Lorrelaine would stop for her ‘personal business’ would be Cairo and her personal interests there have been terminated.”
This got Severus’ attention: “Nothing happened Yaxley; we got in, got into a room where I stayed on the couch while she got the bed, killed Karkaroff on the second night of our stay and wasn’t there in the morning. I was late for classes because of her; I’m not very happy with her right now either. Now tell me, why Cairo?”
