Georgianna woke up and immediately wished there were a sedative that Zeke could have drugged her with. Every bit of her hurt and she couldn’t even bear to touch anything. The painful tingles in her fingertips told her that her nerve endings were highly overstimulated but when she tried to move her feet and fingers, she could estimate that there wasn’t any serious damage. She heard footsteps and felt something cool against her lips.
“Drink up little one, this will take a while to get used to.” Zeke cupped the bottom of her head to help her take in the liquid and she drank deeply, finishing the glass at a single take.
“How did it go?” she asked weakly. He sat by her and started to stroke her hair:
“You fainted after first thirty minutes; it was easier when you weren’t fighting it fully but I’m still not sure of the result.”
Georgianna sensed a little hesitation in his voice and knew that what he found in her memories surprised him. His eyes seemed to size up her face and features, trying to find a connection between her memories and the woman in front of him.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” she voiced quietly. Zeke seemed to respect that. The only thing he’s done was mutter under his breath.
“This man better be worth it.” Georgianna jerked involuntarily and looked at him. She didn’t believe that Zeke would have thought that she was doing all of this because of Severus. Zeke only smiled knowingly:
“It’s not so hard to see that you love him: that Snape guy. You should have told him instead of risking your life out here. Don’t stare at me like that. I would have known even if I wouldn’t see your memories.”
The tears that swelled up in her eyes sent painful tingles through her cheeks as they rolled down slowly.
“He’s Voldemort’s right hand Zeke,” she whispered. “The best spy he’s ever had who is now fooling half the wizarding world as a professor in Hogwarts. It could never be.”
“You’re that creep’s left hand,” objected the Healer. “And look at what makes you so good at it… “
“Not knowing what to do with the rest of my short life?” she asked lightly. Zeke flinched but Georgianna continued in the same matter of fact tone. “Wanting to finish off every one of them? Wanting to die by a spell instead of eventually drowning in my own blood or becoming some new dangerous monster? You tell me what makes me so good.”
She stared coldly into Zeke’s eyes for a while until he used his wand to refill the glass with water and pressed it to her lips again.
“I assume the gypsy already told you about the tests she had her grandson to make right?” he murmured. Georgianna sighted and remembered the last visit to the small cottage in Wales.
“I’m sorry chaburina; the time is becoming short for you. Soon you’ll either become the beast or you’ll die just like your predecessors.”
The charts on the table were merciless with their data from top to bottom. Georgianna felt goosebumps form on her back when she saw the dramatic increase in her values but there was something else that caught her eye - the signature at the bottom of the page.
“You’ve had my husband to run these tests?” she sighted in disbelief. The memory charm she used on him was weak, even seeing her or coming in contact with anything of hers could break it and her blood was a part of her. Georgianna traced every letter of the elegant signature of James Carter with her fingertip and felt the anger rising within her.
