The old door creaked as Lorrelaine opened it and stepped outside with her heavy bag. Severus followed her, wincing into the bright sunset. Everything seemed to be slightly awkwart after this morning but he promised himself to do anything he could to fix it. He looked down at the woman beside him and felt a trickle of thrill rush through him when he saw her push her hair behind her ears. He knew she was nervous about this goodbye as much as he was but it was entirely up to him to let her know that if she decides to come back from this mission she will be welcomed with open arms.
"Lorrelaine," he called out to her quietly, waiting for her to look up. He enjoyed the sweetly innocent look in her eyes that now reminded more of melted chocolate rather than of an elite assassin. He didn't know how but he was sure she's changed. Severus decided to step closer, mesmerized by the vulnerable gaze she gained when he drew his arms around her.
Several children giggled as Severus pulled Lorrelaine into a long kiss. It was slow, tender and he wasn’t willing to interrupt it even for such a sign of disrespect. Severus breathed in the scent of her hair, wondering how long it would be before he would be allowed to hold her again. Lorrelaine stepped away from him and grabbed the handle of her bag, planting one more careful kiss onto his lips.
“I have to go now,” she whispered. Severus could see disappointment flash through her eyes and he wished that he could turn few things back, however, the moment when he meant to warn her before mentioning secret mission plans from Voldemort. But the words that came out of his mouth scared her and she shrouded back inside her shell. She became strangely shy around him at times, as if she were afraid to even breathe.
“Just promise you’ll come back,” he whispered back to her. He ran his thumb across her lower lip. “It’s not in my nature to beg Lorrelaine but I am ready to do so if it’ll bring you back to me.”
Lorrelaine looked up at him as a wounded doe but she jumped up to give him another soft lips.
“I’d love to come back,” she said and started to walk towards the end of the street. Severus knew that she would turn around the corner and Disapparate to wherever she needed to go. She turned back at him before turning out of his sight and smiled, Severus hoped he wasn’t imagining it but he saw the look of love pass across her face. He remained outside for a long time, hypnotizing the spot where Lorrelaine disappeared. He returned to the house and sat down on the sofa. The clock on the mantle showed that it was half past ten which meant his visitor was due soon. He waited patiently and in a short while the flames in his fireplace turned green and Albus Dumbledore stepped out of the fireplace.
“I must say your fireplace is unusually clean Severus,” he said in place of the words of welcome. “My robes have never been this clean after I traveled in here…”
Lorrelaine has kept the place clean while she stayed with him. While he despised the house, she turned it into something he actually liked. One of the things she fixed first was the fireplace; she loved sitting in front of the fire and he loved to watch her. Natural fire seemed to be the only way that her hands and feet could actually get warm, that and hours of loveplay.
“Severus?”
Severus frowned at the interruption to his thoughts.
“Yes Albus?” he said in what he hoped to be an inconspicuous tone.
“I was hoping to hear some news regarding the ‘reshuffles’ in the Death Eater community and Tom,¨said the old man kindly as he sat down in the chair facing him.
“Well… they’re the life of a party right now that everybody knows about Voldemort’s resurrection. Assaults and blackmails are taking place as we speak but I’m sure you already know about that from other Order members in more specific details…”
