Fleur Delacour-Weasley was making Teddy a cup of tea. He had shown up to pick Victoire up to go with her to New Years at Ron and Hermione's house. Instead of Victoire, Fleur answered the door and told him to come in. Victoire wasn't ready yet.
She handed an ornate cup covered in vines to Teddy and sat across from him. Fleur leaned back and washed him, studied him, as he drank.
"You don't like it, Teddy?" Fleur smiled, "you want anything different? Champagne?"
"This is lovely, Fleur."
Fleur went back to studying Teddy. Teddy, now conscious, sat up straight. Did his shoes not match his suit? Was his jacket buttoned wrong?
"You look very 'andsome tonight."
So it wasn't the suit.
For New Years, Teddy picked a navy suit with tan shoes and a black tie. His hair was jet black, like his godfather's, but in a buzz cut.
Fleur looked up at the stairs, then back at Teddy.
"Do you remember, Teddy, one day when you were a little boy?" Fleur shifted in her seat. "We were all at ze Malfoy Manor for ze funeral of your Uncle Lucius." Teddy was three years old when Lucius Malfoy died of a morphine addiction, something that got increasingly worse after the war ended.
"Anyway, there we all were. Your godfazzer debated taking you, but your Grandmuzzer Andromeda insisted. He was your uncle, after all." Fleur shook her head. "She was not there, of course." Teddy's grandmother and great-aunt Narcissa started speaking again after the passing of Lucius.
"Your cousin Draco was silent. Somber, but silent. Supporting his muzzer mostly." Fleur dabbed her mouth with a napkin. "But I don't know what your godfazzer told you, or how much you understood, but you went up to Draco and you said," Fleur laughed softly, "you told him zat his fazzer didn't have to be scared because your parents could play wiz him now. And zat Draco could come over any time to play with your toy solar system."
Teddy blinked. Yes, he did remember this now that Fleur mentioned it. He also remembered Narcissa not knowing how to react and Draco instinctively picking the little boy up over his shoulder, held him tight, and started to cry, which made Teddy start to cry.
He'd never had the best relationship with Draco or Narcissa, but at the end of the day, Teddy did have a family, a real family. Not that the Weasleys' weren't a real family, but they filled a void even Harry knew only the Malfoys could for Teddy.
"Ze room was absolutely quiet," Fleur remembered. "And at zat moment, I knew you were such a special boy."
Teddy wondered why Fleur was telling him all of this.
"I was in ze room when you were born. I held your muzzer's hand. I splashed your fazzer's face with water when he turned white." Fleur laughed.
Teddy smiled.
"And, and just," Fleur got up from her chair, "you are just such a special person to me. I loved your parents very much. I think about them every day, and here you are, zeir baby." She wiped a tear and put her hands around Teddy's face. "I can't help but feel honored zat you love my little girl."
Teddy felt his eyes double in size. "Victoire? Yeah, she's a mate," he stammered.
Fleur scoffed. "I just gave you zat whole speech about how much I loved you!" She shook her head. "And you are a wonderful boy, but you are ze worst liar in ze world. And your hair turned pink ze second I mentioned Victoire."
