Chapter 11

It is 3:30 and Lily just picked me up from school, I’m sitting in the car looking out the window. Everything is just going by so fast, after about ten minutes in the car we got to the doctor’s office. Signed in and wrote all my information then got called into the back. When they took my weight in nearly passed out. I GAINED SEVEN POUNDS!! How is that possible? I haven’t been eating and I’ve been throwing up almost everything I eat. Then sitting on the bed thing thinking what going to happen there was a knock on the door and in walked a middle aged lady, “Hello Layla I’m Dr. Smithson.” She stuck out her hand and I shook it.

“Hi Dr. Smithson.” I smiled at her.

“So, what seems to be the problem?”

“I don’t know? I’ve been really sick lately throwing up all the time, always tired.”

“How long has it been going on?”

            “About a month?”

“When was the last time you had sexual intercourse?”

“I haven’t ha- Oh god, a month ago.”

“Okay I’ll take some test’s to make sure you’re not pregnant.” She took the tests and the wait would be about 15 minutes. Longest 15 minutes ever, it felt more like 15 years.

Fifteen minutes later the doctor walked into the room with a look I couldn’t place. She sat next to me and spoke, “Layla… You’re pregnant.” I was frozen like my whole world has stopped at this very moment. That the worlds going to end.

“I…caaaannnn’ttt bbbeee.” I stuttered while the tears started flowing out.

“Sweetie everything will be ok. You always have people to help you out.” I wasn’t worried about being pregnant as much as me losing James. I just got him and if he found out his fiancé is pregnant with his best friend baby. After I calmed down a little I rinsed off my face but my eyes were still red and puffy I walked out of the exam area and into the waiting room where the doctor was talking to Lily when I got there I heard Dr. Smithson say, “I would like to see her back in a week to talk to her. There is nothing seriously wrong with her but I want her to tell you herself. Okay I’ll see you next week”

“Layla what is Dr. Smithson talking about.” Lily asked concern etched in her voice.

“I think we should go home first. I just need to think.”  We went back to the car and I couldn’t pay attention to anything Mrs. Anderson says or anything around me. All I could think about is that I’m pregnant with Justin’s baby, and how I’m going to tell James.

I zoned out the whole time I didn’t realize that we were already home until I felt Lily shake me, “Layla are you okay sweetie.”

“Ya sorry I was just deep in thought.”

“It’s okay. I have to pick Adam up. Do you want to come or stay home?”

“I think I’ll just go for a walk if that’s okay?”

“Sure sweetie but be careful.” I smiled and said okay.

I grabbed my phone and started walking. I looked at the time and saw that school was out for the day but James and Justin had football practice. Dialing Justin’s number and hoping he’ll pick up he does on the third ring. “Lay what’s up I’m at practice? Do you need James I can go get him?”

“No Justin. I actually need to talk to you it’s an emergency. But don’t tell James yet. I need to talk to you first.” I said worry dripping off my tongue

“Sure do you want me to come now?” he asked with concern

“If it’s possible and you don’t get in trouble.”  I told him

“Yeah let me just tell coach I’ll meet you at McDonalds.”

Justin’s P.O.V.

Layla seemed off today. Like something was bothering her. I’ve gotten pretty close to her and to me she’s like a little sister. I pulled up to McDonalds and saw Layla standing by the door a look of worry, anger, and scared passed on her fetchers. When I saw that I parked into the nearest spot and jumped out of the car and ran up to her. “Lay are you ok?” I asked her.

She looked at me and started crying, “Justin I need to talk to you about something?”

“What is it Layla? You can tell me anything?” I looked at her worried. She grabbed my hand and brought me to the booth in the farthest end of the restaurant.

We sat down and she bowed her head, she turned to me and quietly said, “Justin I’m pregnant and you’re the Dad.” It took me awhile to comprehend what she said but when I did I the last thing I saw before everything went black was Layla’s tear stained face.
