Chapter 16

James P.O.V.

My Mom is not going to be happy that the baby is Justin’s . Plus she would be pissed that I took Layla to a party on her first night here not knowing anyone and leaving her by herself. Mom might not even let me marry Layla and months before I might have been happy about it but now I think I’m in love with her, and if you’re wondering if I wish the baby was mine… I do. I wish that the little infant growing in her would be my son or daughter. Even though it won’t be my kid I’ll love him or her and treat them as my own.

“James are you okay? You kind of zoned out on me.” Layla asked me concern clear in her voice.

I smiled at her and said, “Ya I’m fine just thinking.”

A flash of sadness passed over her eyes, but was gone in a flash, “Oh. Are you still mad?”

“No, just sad, I was just thinking how I kind of wished you were carrying my child and not my best friends.” She flinched back from the last part of my comment and I don’t blame her, that was going too far. “Sorry I shouldn’t have said that.”

“It’s ok I understand that your mad.” She dropped her head and headed to the door, “are we going to get this over with and tell your mom about the baby?”

“Ya I’m coming.” I walked over to her and held her hand trying to make her feel better and understand I’m not as mad as she thinks I am, but I don’t think she noticed.

We found my mom down stairs in the living room with a couple of boxes around her and baby clothes and toys…specifically Adams and my old toy and clothes. I looked at Layla and saw a couple of tears roll down her face. “Mom, Layla and I have something to talke to you about.”

“Oh what is it sweetie.” My mother concern clear on her face.

“Mom you won’t like this and we will try to explain the situation as best as we can.”

“James you’re scaring me what’s wrong?” She asked looking between Layla and I.

“Mom Layla’s baby isn’t-“  I couldn’t say it, I couldn’t see the disappointment on her loving face.

“THE BABY ISN’T JAMES!!!!” Layla yelled tears running down her face as she looked in my mom’s eyes.

“What do you mean the baby isn’t James?” Mom asked confused

I answered not wanting to really bother Layla about the situation considering she had tears running down her face. “Mom the first night Layla came I was being selfish the only way I could have gone to Justin’s party was if Layla came with me and I told her to act like she didn’t know me. I was being a jerk and I left her by herself not knowing anyone-“ this was going to be the hard part, “she meet Justin at the party and they both got a little too drunk and I think you know what happed from that point on.”

“James  I love Layla like a daughter already but I need to think this through; maybe we should call off the wedding and send her home.”

“NO Mom I love Layla. She can’t go back to Texas this is her home now!!!” She can’t do that Layla is my fiancé now according to the law, my mom just can’t send her back I was actually starting to change my ways and fall in love with her.
