Prologue

Yes, I know. Another DC fanfiction. But this was just an idea that I thought I could probably work on that didn't deserve to be in the one-shot book. Also, should I use prologues, or just go directly to Chapter 1?

The young girl walked through the streets, a dark blue shawl wrapped around her head, covering her hair. She stumbled, her feet tired as she crept into the alleyways. She sobbed, crumpling in the wet floor, before pulling out a damp piece of paper.

On it was a beautiful sketch, so realistic that is was as if the drawing was not a drawing but a photograph. It depicted a happy family, her once happy family, with a loving mother and a loving father, with their darling daughter. Their lotus flower.

Tears streamed from her eyes as the young girl raised her finger, the point of it coated in blood: thick, scarlet blood. She pressed the tip of her bloody finger against the fragile sheet of paper and began to draw, ignoring the crowds of people rushing past her on the main street.

A blotch of red on the mother's forehead.

A line of red across the father's torso.

And a ripped out heart on the little girl's chest, blooming with blood.

The little girl's tears continued to stream as she remembered what had just happened, her bloody hands pressing against her simple white dress. The snowy white fabric turned grey in the shadows of the ally, and as she removed her hands from her dress, two garnet handprints remained.

Flashback

"Hide!" Her mother shouted, shooing her towards the fire escape. "Run! Don't come back for us!"

"Mom?" She cried. "What's happening?"

"Everything will be fine, sweetie. You don't need to know why. Oh, you're so young, Lynn. You're only five, and I don't want to condemn you to this future life." She pressed a golden chain into her hands, with a little quartz lotus hanging on it. "All you need to know is that we love you. We love you, our little lotus flower."

"Mom! Where are we going?" She cried again, as her mother lifted her onto the fire escape. "Mom?" A shadow crept up behind her, and before she knew it, a large bang rang in her ears.

She winced, hands over her ears from the sound, and she glanced at her mother. She held back a scream as her mother's hazel eyes glazed over, limp body thudding to the floor, a bullet hole through her skull. Her mother's facial features suddenly shifted, revealing her true beauty underneath her skin. Her mother was a shape-shifter. She looked at the ground, and noticing a bullet casing, picked it up, before glaring at the figure who had killed her mother.

"No!" Her father yelled his hand clenching, and almost faster than Lynnette could react, charged towards the figure. The figure did not hesitate to swing a knife upwards, and although her father spun out of the way, the blade lengthened and slashed apart his shirt and through his chest.

Lynnette stifled another scream, still hiding in the shadows, small frame pressed against the railing, and she watched as the figure looked towards her. She didn't see much, except for the white bold words: ANTI-METAHUMAN TASK FORCE.

The man walked away, boots trodding through the expanding pool of blood, and as he disappeared from sight, Lynnette rushed towards her father. "Dad?"

"Run, Lynnette, run." Her father choked, as her hands scrambled towards his chest. "Th-They'll be back. Run as fast as you can, and don't look back."

The traumatized girl sprinted away, her body shifting on autopilot as her young brain tried to comprehend it. Her mom. Her dad. Gone?

Her cries soon stilled as she clutched the bullet casing before she noticed someone walking towards her, and she immediately curled into a ball, trying to hide from the intruder. A blue-haired woman walked towards her and reached out a hand. "Are you alright?"

"Mom told me not to talk to strangers." The young girl sniffled. "Go away."

"Are you Aruna's daughter?" She asked, voice soft.

"I'm not talking to you." Lynn grumbled again. "Go away."

"Your mother taught you well, I see. And she escaped India to come to America? I heard Batgirl and Batman visited her in Mumbai."

"Who are you?" The little girl asked, suddenly afraid. "How do you know so much about mom?"

"Your mother was a woman like me. A woman with powers. A meta-human. We were, companions." The woman gave a sly smile. "You remind me of her."

"Who are you?" She asked again, hands gripping the bullet.

"My name is Amunet Black. I think I can help you hide from those who killed your parents, and get revenge on them as well."

The little girl was naïve and young, without much experience in things like death and revenge. She looked at her bloody hands and stood up, her slight frame only reaching up to the woman's chest. "They killed mom. They killed dad. Those monsters." The girl's face twisted with rage, before suddenly turning calm again. "I know who killed them, Ms Black. They were the anti-metahuman task force."

"And we will take then down. What's your name, Aruna's daughter?"

The girl pondered for a while. "You can call me Lotus. Or you can call me- Minx."
