By the time Sherlock got home, it was about 2 in the morning in London. Rosie's birthday was today. John was snoring as Sherlock walked in to their bedroom. They converted Sherlock's room into Rosie's room and they got two queen beds upstairs, where Sherlock and John slept.

Sherlock felt... safe. He laid down on his bed. He was too tired to do anything else but sleep. Though he turned to look at John. Sherlock watched as his chest rose and fell with each passing breath. Eventually he fell asleep to the sound of his snores.

"BLOODY HELL SHERLOCK!" screamed John. He was peering over Sherlock's bed.

"Good morning to you too, John!" said Sherlock, smiling looking up at him.

Sherlock yawned, stretched his arms out, and rubbed his eyes. He knew he wouldn't need an alarm as he expected John to wake him. He could practically see a vein sticking out of John's neck. And the color of his face was comparable to that of a tomato.

"I WAITED ALL NIGHT FOR YOU TO SHOW UP! IT'S ROSIE'S BIRTHDAY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, SHERLOCK!"

"Yes, yes, I am aware of that, John." Sherlock was happy to be home. He missed this.

"REALLY?! BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE IT!"

"It's alright. I got her a gift. And the cake is in the fridge, right next to the jar of eyeballs."

"What did you get her? Another 'free pass to investigate with world famous consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes?!" John's voice was shaking.

"Would you calm down already. I got her a wonderful gift. Now we've awoken her as well as Mrs. Hudson. So let's get this party started."

They both pulled on their matching navy blue dressing gowns and headed downstairs, alongside each other.

"Dad! How was your trip?" asked Rosie as they arrived to he kitchen.

"Oh it was... quite fascinating!" replied Sherlock.

"Why is Dad's face red this time?" Rosie giggled.

"Rosie that-" John began saying.

"Oh no don't mind him. I just got home a little later than expected, nothing to worry about," interrupted Sherlock.

"Well how about we have a bit of breakfast and we'll open your gifts," suggested John

"Okie dokie!" Rosie bounced around.

"Oh isn't she growing up fast! 8 years already," remarked Mrs. Hudson.

She beamed with excitement at Rosie, who smiled back. Then she gave Sherlock and John that same look of 'why aren't you two married yet'. The four of them had a splendid morning of laughter and fun. They even played a few rounds of Cluedo before they had some lunch.
