"Stripe down," I say as I step back into my room from the window. Raya spins out and I fall onto my bed, lightheaded. She drifts barely an inch above my pillow, the tip of her tail brushing against the material as her ears fall. "Raya? Come on, it's okay," I try to comfort her.
"Even Plagg thinks I'm not good enough," she says quietly.
"No, it's not you, it's the miraculous," I remind her. "If the miraculous was balanced then we'd be a team with Ladybug and Chat Noir. But we don't need to be," I remind her, petting her head softly in an attempt to cheer her up.
"It's all because they couldn't make the miraculous right," Raya says, her ears twitch as she floats up several inches. "They didn't do it right. They didn't take it seriously enough. Those people, they're the ones that assigned the miraculous to the kwami. If I had been given the earrings-!"
"Raya-" We both stop moving as we see a black butterfly slip under the window sill. "Raya, Stripe up," I say, holding my wrist up urgently. Raya spins into my bracelet, but so does the butterfly. "Wait-" I start to say but then the warm energy I normally feel when I transform turns cold, like ice forming over me.
"I am Hawkmoth," a deep voice says. I can hear the echo in my mind. No. No this can't be happening. "And you are now Mistake. I've given you the ability to take control of your powers and use them to show your worth to Paris. In return-"
"Give you the miraculous?" My voice says, but I'm not the one speaking. "Yeah right. You've been dreaming of having them for months. I've wanted them for thousands of years. The miraculous are mine!" My eyes open and I see a reflection of myself in the window. I'm no longer grey with black stripes. I'm black with red stripes. But is it really me? My body moves by itself, or under the control of Raya? Is that what's happening? Was I not akumatized but Raya was?
Everything blurs. I don't know how much time is passing. We're at the top of the Louvre before I've figured out what's happening again. I feel drained trying to stay conscious. We were at the school at some point. Marinette's house is in front of me now. Of us now. But we look in through the window of her room and see the lights out, empty. No sign of Marinette or Tikki.
"Where is she?" I demand. Or Raya demands. Or Mistake demands. I need to do something. I need to stop this.
"Sto-op," I force out through my mouth. I feel my face frown and see the expression reflected in the dark window.
"Tris, you're just along for the ride right now," Raya, Mistake says. "Be a good girl and do as I ask, won't you? Isn't that what you're good at doing?"
"Stripe down," I spit past the teeth that are trying to keep me from speaking. The flashing dark red light is so different than what I'm used to that I also forget that I'm hanging off the side of a building. I cling onto the siding, the energy sucked out of me as Raya glares at me, back to her little kwami form. Her coloring no longer the grey and black, but the black and red like how the costume was. My miraculous bracelet is red instead of grey. This is so wrong.
