"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Laurie, happy birthday to you!" My family and I sung. Its was her first birthday, and I couldn't believe it. I stood behind Laurie and helped her blow out the candles.

I was almost in tears when everyone was singing to her. My babygirl is growing up so fast. Too fast, for my taste. Why can't she stay this small and innocent forever? I just font want her to grow up.. To me its scary.

Laurie smashed her hands into the cake, taking a huge bite from the cake in her fists. I couldn't help but laugh. She looked up at me with her face full of cake and icing. I think she was really happy.

I put her hair into pigtails. She has a lot of hair for an one year old, and it's now more dark brown. Her eyes also turned brown. More and more everyday she looks like me.

Once the cake was done, I brought Laurie to the living room to open the few gifts my family and I bought her. It was just finger paints, some stuffed animals and some flash cards. She's one she doesn't need to be spoiled.

It was about two in the afternoon when the party was over. I could tell that Lauren was having trouble keeping her eyes open, so I brought her upstairs into her crib. Once I laid her down she passed right out. I laid down on my bed and looked into the crib. She's perfect, and growing up. It kinda scares me. I know that she's going to be beautiful. Everybody is going to want her.

I snap back to reality when the phone rings. I walk out of the bedroom and pick it up.

"Hello?"

"Brendon? How are you? How's our little girl?"

"Our? No, she's mine, and she's fine." I said kinda pissed.

"I know I said that I can't take care of her, but I can take her back."

"What? No! You are not taking her away from me! You have made no attempt to even be in her life let alone raise her. You have no idea how much time I have had to put into her. She doesn't need you, but she needs me." I slam the phone back onto the wall.
