Chapter 14 - Face to Face

I check my watch while I lay in bed with Shadow. It's midnight. I turn over to face Shadow, he's staring at me.

"I thought you were asleep..." Shadow groans.

"I was, I just woke up." I say, placing my hand on Shadow's chest. He places his hand on my back and pulls me closer to him. My head gets placed on his chest as well. I hear Shadow's soft breathing, his warm breath going onto the top of my head. I cling onto Shadow, trying not to sob too loudly.

"Amy...?" Shadow whispers, lifting my head up to level with his.

"You won't leave me again... Right? Please... I can't bare it if you do." I plead. Shadow's eyes looked away for a minute. His ruby shining eyes turn back, a flame burning within, telling me he will always be with me.

"You can't leave me either..." Shadow mummers. Luckily for me, I heard him, and I nodded happily. A knock on the door wakes Shadow and I. Slowly, Shadow got up to answer the door, it was Vector.

"Wake up, you two are on lookout now." Vector says tiredly. I don't think he's had any sleep. Shadow turns to me and helps me up, I yawn and Vector leaves, letting us have our privacy. I take of my shirt, and I grab a blank black shirt. Before I could put my shirt on Shadow jumps on top of me.

"Shadow!" I laugh as he places his head on my stomach.

"Are you sure you want to go...? Your wound hasn't healed yet." Shadow says, looking up at me.

"I'll be fine." I say forcing a small smile. All I have to do is not bump into anything and it won't hurt. Shadow gives me a peck on the cheek, and he goes to get changed too.

We scout around the woods, trying not to go too far from each-other, I jump from tree to tree. I lost Shadow, I'm sure he's fine, few more minutes and we'll meet back up at the base. I suddenly spot a shadow, I pause, staying on one tree. I decide to investigate, keeping my knife ready. I look around from the top of the tree, I climb down, being cautious about my surroundings. I suddenly get kicked in the stomach, I fall down immediately in pain. I look up to see a squirrel looming above me. The squirrel grins. I recognize this squirrel.

"The deal was to keep you safe! To keep you safe... That squirrel's name is Kyle, Eggman's creation. They wanted to kill you, but, I said I would be loyal to them and stay with them for as long as they need, just as long as they wouldn't hurt you..."

I gasp, this is Kyle.

"Nice meeting you again, looks like you've grown more mature." The squirrel chuckles, flipping his hair to the side. "Where's my toy?" He asks with a deathly glare.

"Toy...?" I ask.

"That hedgehog friend of yours." The squirrel sighs, already sick of talking to me. "He escaped from his chains. That means the deal is off."

"What are you-" The squirrel once again kicks me where my wound is. I scream loudly, filled with pain. I grab my knife and stab the squirrel's leg.

"You motherfucker!" The squirrel shouts, slapping me. I try to get up, I suddenly get picked up by another person. I turn around, ready to hit whoever, I stop myself though, because it was Shadow. "Now you decide to show your face!"

I was taken by Kyle and his friends. Taken deep into the woods, they wanted to take Amy as hostage. I told them I'd go in her place. They greatly accepted, they needed to bring me to Eggman anyway. After seeing Eggman for the last time, he ordered for Kyle and his friends to do experiments on me, they tortured me, they had no mercy. I was living in a cave, slowly starving to death, thirsting to death, dying from the cold for ten years. Once fateful day, Kyle and his friends went to the village, the chains that kept me in the cave had rusted, they slipped off my bony arms. I took my chance to escape torture, I later regretted it when Amy found me. Where her and my friends were living were not that far from Kyle, but, Kyle threatened me. He told me if I told anyone, everyone I held dear would be killed. I took my chance to tell Mephiles, I can't talk anymore.

"If your come closer, I assure you, you will regret it." Shadow says boldly. I look deep into his eyes, they told me his story, he's scared deep down.

"I wouldn't threaten me." Kyle smirks as he runs towards us. Shadow throws me to the side as he gets tackled by Kyle. The crazy squirrel places a small circular thing on Shadow's back, Shadow kicks Kyle off him.

"I wouldn't fight me if you knew what's good for you." Shadow spits. Kyle smirks as he pulls out a button and presses it. Shadow suddenly falls to the floor in great pain. It's because of that thing on his back, I have to get it off him. I run towards Shadow, Kyle grabs my quills and pulls me back.

"You wanna know how much you are? You all have a bounty on your heads... Shadow is around... one thousand dollars... but you, you are fifty-thousand!" Kyle says with crazy eyes. "You must've done something really horrible to get on Eggman's bad side!"

"Yeah, it's the same thing I'm about to do to you!" I summon my old piko-hammer, I hit Kyle with it and rip the thing off Shadow's back. I take Shadow's chaos emerald out of his pocket. Kyle grabbed me by the neck choking me.

"You're coming with me." Kyle says as he struggles to keep me still. I secretly dropped my tracker on Shadow so our friends can find him, and I get dragged away, deeper into the forest.

Whilst I get dragged further away from my unconscious love, I try to kick Kyle with all my might, trying not to cry.
