A cool breeze brushed through the forest, picking up leaves and rustling trees, though it made no sound. The air was frigid, like ice on a car window. Sophy made her way down the porch stairs, stopping to look at the scars I the ground. The monster that brought her here had made quite a nice mark. Grass had started to grow in the lines, adding life to a deadly memory.
She continued towards the old playset. The ground was soft against her shoes.
Quietly she sat on the swing next to Percy. Everything was silent. Almost like the world was holding its breath, waiting to see what would happen. Snow began to sprinkle down ever so slightly. It was almost like dust.
"What do I even say?" Percy spoke after a few seconds of painful silence.
"I...I don't know."
"I wish I could come with you."
"I do too, but we don't know what would happen. It could kill you."
"Even more than you leaving already does?"
"Percy..."
He stood up and paced around. "There has to be something I can do!" We could run away to a dimension that's safe for you!"
A smile came across Sophy's face. "I would love that, but Percival..."
"I know, we can't. It would take too long. We don't even know what's doing it here. For all we know it could be a demon who's feeding off your soul."
"Heh, I'd be able to detect that Percy. It would take a pretty high-class demon, maybe even the devil himself, to avoid detection."
"I wish I knew. then we could run away, be adults in a different world."
She stood up and hugged him. She leaned back, admiring his amber eyes. She smiled, tears in their eyes. "We've grown up so much, haven't we."?
"Heh yeah, I was hoping to grow old with you."
She laughed. "Aw, does that mean you're proposing to me?"
Percy fished a box out of his pocket. He opened it to reveal a fire agate/amethyst engagement ring. "Actually, heh, yeah. I was going to wait till we were ready, but... I thought I'd give it to you, at least before you left."
Tears slipped out of Sophy's eyes. She kissed him, and in a split second her eyes were open. She saw her whole life flash.
In the window of the house, she saw the moment she felt Percy kick in Valerie's stomach. How her face lit up. She remembered her life flashing forward. She's always loved him.
Next, she saw her first Christmas. She stood off in the corner, scared to join the family. Eventually, Red got her to join in the fun, and from that point on she was lively.
Next was her first kiss, Percy was so cute that day. He blushed so much that the carpet caught on fire.
Tears streamed down her face. She could feel Percy's as well.
She didn't want to leave. Sophy pulled back to look at Percy. "I love you so much. I promise you" She pulled off her old necklace and put it around his neck. "I will always be with you."
She pulled him close. Memories flooded her mind more and more, the pain almost unbearable. He squeezed her tight; she felt him shake. "One day." He whispered through crying breaths. "I'll see you again."
She looked into his eyes and smiled. "I can't wait for that day, my love." She kissed him.
One last time.
