Thanks so much for giving me hope in writing my story again. This chapter is dedicated to you!
Chapter 3: Friends?
Melanie's POV.
My dad always says that were lucky to be living in an actual house in the city, but I think otherwise. The way the buildings are made help lessen the amount of noise in the city streets. Too bad we live in a freaking house where I can hear a cab roll by from the shower. You'd think I would be used to it by now, but I swear it's noisier than usual.
I couldn't get much sleep last night and I've been fussing about it all day. Thank god its last period. Don't know if I could keep myself up any longer.
This teacher isn't helping. Going on about two dudes named Lennie and George. Why should I care that Lennie is super strong? Of mice and men is really is a waste of my time.
But on a serious note, I already read the book, so I don't need to pay close attention, well unless the teacher is talking about foreshadowing.
"Melanie, why do you think Lennie always listens to George?" the teacher asked while looking at the attendance sheet. Most eyes were on me. I don't usually get attention from people. I try to dress pretty and copy pictures I see on tumblr. Has it finally worked?
I'm not even fully here and she's asking me questions!
I lifted my head from the desk and tried to answer the question as correctly as possible. "He fully respects George. He thinks of him as an older brother, and since they stick around with each other all the time, it makes sense. And Lennie isn't very smart, so George defending him makes Lennie feel like he has to do what he's told." I told her.
I heard whispers going around the room amongst my peers.
"Who's she?" a boy said.
"She's smart!"
"Yea, and pretty." A nerd said.
"How long has she been here?"
"I think I've seen her around." A girl said.
"I saw her yesterday morning in music class singing with Nico!"
"No way!" another girl said.
Every person's attention was now on me. Did they really not notice me before?
"Ew no, she's diseased," commented Nina to the students bickering.
DISEASED?! IM NOT DISEASED!!!
"What are you talking about? I'm not diseased!" I yelled at Nina.
Some random girl yelled out, "Drama!" and say back down.
Weird...
I may be a friendless weirdo, but diseased I am not.
Nina gave me her, did-you-just-talk-to-me-like-that look. I hate to say it. But yes. I did.
I don't care if you don't like me or hate me. But don't call anyone diseased. That's just rude.
Looked like Nina was going to say something but the teacher cut her off. "That's right Melanie. That's why. You see guys maybe if you'd pay attention like Melanie," she said again looking at the attendance for reassurance. "You guys would be able to ace the test I'm giving after we finish reading this book.
I smiled at what the teacher had said about me. Even though she didn't know my name like everyone else, I still felt happy.
Later on the bell rung and it was off to my locker I went.
It was a loud bang of my locker hitting the other that scared the shit outta me.
"AHH!" I shrieked. When I look to see who it was, it was a girl just about the same age as me and she was a bit taller.
She had pretty red locks and really pale skin with brown eyes. The hair color was obviously artificial, but she rocked it.
"Hello! My names Dylan." She grabs for my hand and quickly and tightly shakes it with hers.
"Uh, hi. I'm Melanie," I told her kind of wanting to be somewhere else. She seemed nice, but she seemed too perky. But she's actually talking to me.
Like in the hallways. At school. In front of anyone.
Yea, she's cool.
"O-M-F-G! You act as if I didn't know that. A lot of people are going to notice you now." She spoke really quickly. Why would people notice me again? "It's because paparazzi caught you getting a ride from teen heartthrob NICO MARIN!"
Did I say that out loud?
"Yes, you did. Do you do that often?" She asked. I don't know... "Uh I don't think so."
"Well, I was wondering..." She slowly started. "I don't have any friends, so could you maybe me mine? She asked kind of shy now.
Way to switch moods.
I thought about it for awhile.
She seems nice and she seems to know a lot about stuff. She also looks like a happy-go-lucky kind of person.
Who cares! She wants to be friends with me! I'll take the chances.
"SURE!" I said. As soon as her word came out I shortly regretted it.
She had me wrapped around her. She was a strong one. But even throughout that, I knew I had a knowing smile on my face.
I have a friend.
END OF CHAPTER 3
I would have made this longer but I wanted to give a quick chapter just in case I get lazy on the weekend!!
This is a filler chapter. So not as long or as entertaining. And no Nico. I'm sorry about that.
I also wanted to talk
About the casting of my book? Do you guys want a cast or not? I was thinking Vanessa Hudgens as Melanie and Cody Linley as Nico. Just think of Vanessa with blue eyes.
