Chapter 1: Sing To Me

Melanie Anderson.

"Oh Nico, you silly boy!" I mumbled in my sleep.

"MEL WAKE UP!" my brother yelled from the outside my door.

I shot up out of my bed and groaned in reply. He just ruined my beautiful dream. I want to go back to sleep, my bed is way too comfortable and it should be illegal to have to get up from it.

I quickly showered and attempted to shave my legs. Who was I kidding? There isn't enough time or energy for this.

Today I decided on wearing a white cropped top with ripped skinny jeans. I paired it with my favorite combat boots and a camouflage jacket, since the fall breeze is starting to creep in.

I quickly filled in my brows, applied some mascara, added bronzer and highlight, and then added my favorite pink nude liquid lipstick. Sounds like more than it really is.

I decided to put my hair down since it looked presentable enough.

Walking downstairs and towards my kitchen, I decided to grab an apple because why not?

"Bye Dad, see you later!" I yelled out as he was putting on his shoes for work in the living room.

"Alright sweetie, take care!" And with that I was ready to face the lunatics who attended my school.

I took the subway to school everyday since I live in the city that never sleeps.

My dad has a car that he uses for work. He sometimes picks us up from school, but I'd rather take the train anyway, since I wont have to worry about parking.

"Morning loser!" my brother says as he catches up to me. Instead of answering to his pathetic greeting, I just bite down on my apple.

"You're going to be hungry by the time you get home if you just eat that apple." He tells me while swiping his metro card.

New York is one of those cities where you don't want to get caught in traffic.

Trust me, rush hour isn't pretty.

Especially when those train carts get filled with sweaty humans with morning breath.

My brother knows that I don't go to lunch and I usually just go to the library to read or finish some work that I'm too lazy to do at home.

"I know but luckily I packed in some granola bars." I told him.

He nodded.

My brother teases me and picks on me, but even he knows when to stop. He also knows that I have no friends. Sucks to be me, honestly.

Riversdale High is in downtown New York where a lot of rich kids live. I'm not rich, but my dad isn't struggling with money either.

Since my first period class is right next to my locker I don't really have to worry about rushing, or so I thought.

As soon as I walk in I see Nina, the queen B of our school looping her arm around Nico's.

I'll be honest, I've been in denial that Nico goes to our school.

I've spent this entire weekend trying to ignore the fact that I had that embarrassing encounter with him on Friday.

It's turning out to be impossible since EVERYONE is crowding around him and Nina.

"Move it people, keep it moving!" said one of the body guards.

How am I supposed to get to class on time?
