Chapter 19
Drew's POV
"Wow...I had no idea. How come you didn't call me at all, man? This is...do you want to just move in with us?" Jay was very astonished.
"I can't, and you know it. You have way too many kids in your family. Plus a new baby." I swear, making kids is their hobby. Eight kids, plus one baby, making 9 in all. Jay's the oldest; 17. Ace; 16. Cash; 15. Emili; 13. Klay; 11. Tim, Jim, and Jon (triplets); 9. And the baby, Annabelle; 2 months. Jay, Ace, and Cash are so protective of Emili. Earlier this year, she got a boyfriend, or as much as a boyfriend you can have in 7th grade, and those three scared the shit out of that boy. Emili was crushed when he broke up with her. She didn't talk to them for two weeks. Poor Annabelle's going to have seven over protective boys, and I know Emili's going to be protective too. Good luck, kid.
"I know. I was just trying to help...so how's it living with Chelsea and her family?"
"Well, her mom's a bitch, her dad's clueless, but her little seven-year-old sister is adorable. And Chelsea's pretty cool. She loves music and I think she likes my singing and she wanted me to play my guitar. We've had one fight, and I hope that's it because it wasn't fun."
Jay was about to answer when my phone rang. A picture of Chelsea popped up with her name. She went crazy taking selfies this morning.
FLASHBACK
I scrolled through Instagram looking at Tiffany's selfies. She shouldn't wear green. It doesn't make her look creative. Some of them were hot, but those duck faces annoyed me. "I hate duck faces," I complained to Chelsea.
"What are those?"
Oh, yeah. She's been in the dark for a long time. "Here, look." I showed her the picture of Tiffany.
"Ew, that's ugly. Do you have any other pictures of her? She looks like she could be pretty." I chuckled a bit and clicked on her profile. Chelsea scrolled through the pictures. "She's really pretty, but all she has is pictures of her self. Is she conceited?"
"Those are selfies."
"What's a selfie?"
"When you take a picture of yourself. And then when you take a picture with someone else, they still call it a selfie even though it's not."
"Oh, can we take some?" Chelsea asked innocently.
It made me chuckle some more. "Sure, why not?" We sat on the edge of the bed and took so many different kinds of pictures. Then Chelsea took some selfies and they were adorable. She did the stupid duck face to get on my nerves. I took my phone back after.
We talked for a little bit and I kept taking random pictures of her to get on her nerves. I got a really great one though. She was in the middle of laughing and I snapped the picture at the right moment and her smile, and the way her eyes crinkled, it's...beautiful.
FLASHFORWARD
I picked up the phone, "Hey, congratulations, you figured out how to work your phone."
"Drew...I...need...you..." Chelsea hyperventilated through the phone. I practically ran out of Jay's house with him right on my heels.
"Calm down, baby. I'm on my way. What happened?"I climbed into my truck and Jay got in the passenger seat.
"M...Mark..." She breathed before the line went dead.
"You're deadly pale, man. What's going on?"
"The Ball Less Wonder," I spat as I raced down the rode not a care in the world about the speed limit.
"Aw, damnit..." Jay whined, drawing out the damn.
I reached the hospital in five minutes without getting caught by the police. I ran past the front desk lady, not bothering to check in like I'm supposed to. I'm a bad ass like that...
I swung the door to Chelsea's hospital room open.
Chelsea wasn't there.
I saw an envelope on a table next to her bed. In front of it sat a vase of...black daisies? What the fuck!? Who buys fucking black daisies?
I opened the envelope revealing a card that read: You may have escaped, but it's not over yet
I gulped and gripped my hair. "What the hell am I gonna do!?"
