you went back to your old school 3 years later as an alumni member to help out with the annual party that your old school held.

"thank you so much for helping us (y/n), we really needed it. get home safely!" a teacher pat you on the back.

you smiled at her and decided that it would be a pity to leave without walking around the school again to reminisce the memories you had and without hesitating, the first place you went to was the rooftop.

did you ever regret letting go of jinyoung? of course. he made you so happy. even after 3 years, you couldn't forget about him but you had to admit, the feelings did die down.

you leaned onto the railing in front of you as you took a deep breath, letting the cool wind calm you down.

after about 10 minutes, you decided to go back down and go home. right outside the gate of the school, you saw a piece of paper that was folded nicely on the floor, as if it was a love letter for someone. you picked it up and opened it, hopefully being able to find the name of the owner.

the words scribbled on the paper sent a shiver down your spine and you whipped your head left and right to check if a certain person was there.

'hm how do i start this letter? firstly, happy belated birthday jinyoung!! i know i might have ruined your birthday yesterday by showing up at your house and i'm really sorry :( but i hope this present makes up for it :) i'm not good with words so i'll try my best to tell you what i need to through this letter. firstly, you don't have to be so cold and sad all the time you know? i know you've gone through a lot but i'm here to tell you that things do get better!! :) woojin and haknyeon are always by your side and they're always there to listen to your problems. i know we aren't close friends but i can do the same :) i really didn't want to help you when i first got into the school but there was something about you that made me want to help you. i may not be doing a good job but i'll always be here to help :) even if you hate me or leave me, i'll always be your clingy acquaintance :) you mean a lot to me and to others so i'll help you get back on your feet, no matter how long it'll take. i'll help you mend that broken heart of yours."

this was the letter you placed in the box, along with jinyoung's birthday present 3 years ago.

you rushed back into the school to check if jinyoung was still in the school. you saw a familiar back view of someone talking to a teacher. you immediately went up to him once the teacher left.

"jinyoung?" you confirmed.

he turned around and froze for a while before speaking, "nice to see you here. wanna catch up at the rooftop?" he smiled at you with one of the brightest smiles you've seen.

"sure," and you shot him one of the most brightest smiles you could give.

"what brings you here?" he asked to break the comfortable silence.

"i was helping out with the party the school is about to hold, you?"

"just doing the same," he smiled at you again.

you remembered about the note you picked up and reached into your pocket to get it out, "oh, i found this outside the school just now."

he took it and opened it and realized what it was, "oh, thanks."

"why do you still have it?"

"i keep it in my wallet, to remind myself of you whenever i missed you," he said, scratching his neck.

you smiled at how much you actually meant to him.

"how's your.. girlfriend?" it still pained you to say that because just 3 years ago, you were his girlfriend.

"we broke up," he smiled bitterly.

"oh, i'm sorry for asking," you looked down at your feet.

"it's okay, we just couldn't last because of the differences," he explained.

"and your dad?"

he smiled bitterly again, "he moved out of the country because of his job. my ex didn't end up explaining to him what actually happened because she was too afraid and i let her have it her way. so up till now, my dad still thinks i hurt her but oh well, we can't change some things."

you looked at him, eyes full of pity, "i'm sorry."

"no it's okay," he reassured you.

"you know, up till now, i'm still curious about something," you paused for a while, "remember the day you walked me home when i fell asleep at your house? i asked you why you were so cold towards me and you didn't answer. are you gonna answer me now?"

he smiled before speaking, "i started liking you but i didn't want to get into a relationship."

"and the day you were pacing back and forth at the rooftop?"

"did i? i don't remember why i did that as well honestly," he scratched his neck upon remembering something, "oh, i don't know whether i've apologized enough but i'm really sorry for being so rude to you when you tried to help me the first time."

"ah, it's fine, i forgot about it."

"also, remember the day i left your house at like 12am because i fell asleep? i actually got scolded by my mom but i could tell she was secretly excited," you laughed, making jinyoung smile.

"why was she excited?"

"she thought i was finally gonna get a boyfriend," you looked down at your hands again.

"so was she really angry at me when we.. broke up?"

"no not really because i never told her about you, i didn't get the chance to because i always chickened out."

"looks like you're still wearing the birthday present i gave you 3 years ago," you commented.

he looked down at the silver bracelet around his left wrist, "it's pretty and it's from you so it means a lot."

there was another comfortable silence.

"you never wished me happy birthday ever again after we broke up," he pouted.

"you changed your number you idiot," you hit him lightly on his head.

he asked for your phone and he typed in his number, adding a heart after his name in your contacts.

you chuckled, "there's no need for the heart."

"i mean, if you're willing to give me another chance, there'll be a need for the heart to be there."

he pulled you closer as you turned off your phone, leaving the heart beside his name.

the ending is bullshit lol but i couldn't think of how to end it from there so you'll have to deal with this but yes the book has officially ended!! again, thank you for the support :)

i do want to write another book but idk who to write about tsk i'm thinking nct but idk

and also happy new year everyone!! i hope this year will be better for all of you :')
