A little ways down the road...

Tres POV

"Frankie? Babe, where are you?"

"I'm on the deck, pretty boy!"

Billie opened the screen door and sat down next to me, carrying our puppy, Lucy. I kissed Billie and leaned my head on his shoulder.

"Mike phoned. He's gonna come by with the kids, today." Billie told me.

I smiled, "That sounds nice. Man, can you believe Mike became a Dad."

We both laughed. "Man, Mike's dated some shitty woman. I'm glad he finally settled down." Billie told me.

"Hopefully he hasn't settled down too much. We go back on tour tomorrow." I reminded him.

"It's gonna be hard for him to leave the kids behind." Billie said.

"Hell, it's gonna be hard leaving this sweet girl behind." I said, pulling Lucy out of Billie's arms and into mine.

"Tre, have you ever thought about what would happen if we started a family?" Billie asked.

I laughed a little. "You mean, other than Lucy?"

Billie laughed, "Yeah, I'm serious."

"You know Bill, I don't remember much from high school health class, but I'm 60% sure I can't give birth."

Billie rolled his eyes. "Male seahorses give birth."

"Actually?" I asked.

Billie nodded.

"Can I get a seahorse transplant?" I asked.

"I don't know if science is there yet, Tre." Billie said, giving me his "I'm a smart ass face." Billie changed his face so it looked more serious.

"There's always adoption." He said.

I smiled and kissed Billie's forehead. I put my arm around him, allowing Billie to lean into me. Lucy jumped off my lap and began to run around the yard. We both watched her, happily.

"Did you ever think we'd get here, Tre?" Billie suddenly asked me.

No. I honestly didn't. The last few years of our life had been everything I'd ever wanted. It was a long and difficult road to get to where we are now. Despite this, I'm glad it was fucking long and difficult. If I hadn't gone through hell to get to Billie, than the lesson wouldn't have been as clear. There were days where it felt like we should've given up and there were so many moments of doubts. In the end it was worth all of them. Billie's family never forgave him, but once we became our own family he stopped thinking about it. We were lucky to have Mike stand by our side during every moment. We were even more lucky that our fans continue to stand by us and what we stood for. As I looked over at my husband, I couldn't see the broken man he was when he was with Adrienne. That man is gone. The man I see before me may be flawed, but we all are. Neither of us felt broken anymore. If there was a god, I would thank him, and every god there is or ever will be for giving me the man before me. I love every piece of Billie, especially the parts of himself he doesn't like. I didn't know what the future looked like. As long as I have Billie in my life though, I know it'll be ok.

"Tre?"

"Huh?" Billie's voice snapped me back into reality.

Billie laughed, "I said, did you ever think we'd get here?"

I smiled, "No. I never thought I'd be this fucking lucky." I said pulling Billie into a long kiss. As his lips touched mine, it was as if time had stopped for a moment.
