Chapter 5

“You’re from the ferrace pack aren’t you?” Tory asked as we walked down another corridor that began filling up with people.

It had been silent for a while and i wasnt making any moves to start conversation, i didnt want to say the wrong thing, not that i even knew what to say.

 “How, how do you know?” I stuttered confused.

“It’s in your scent although it’s pretty faint which was why I didn’t smell it at first,” he continued nodding as one of his friends walked by.

Every pack had its individual smell, depending how high up in the pack you were the stronger it was, it was just something we had developed over time, since some packs were growing so large that it was impossible for everyone to recognise everyone.

So instead we adapted a certain smell that let you know who the enemy was and who were your own pack members.

 I was shocked that he could still smell that, I was sure that it had gone by now and considering that my family wasn’t of high rank it was faint to begin with.

“That’s why you didn’t kill me.” I concluded more to myself, it explained his sudden change in mood.

New rouges weren't considered very dangerous especially if they'd grown up in a pack, it just meant they knew the laws and such, it was the rouges since birth you had to look out for, they were the criminals of our world.

He coughed looking at me shocked. “I was never going to kill you.” He frowned looking strangely angry.

 I didn’t know what to say, it was clear he was a good Alpha, any rouges found on our land were ordered to leave immediately and if they weren’t gone by nightfall they were chased off and if caught killed brutally.  

“Do you know them, my pack I mean?” i asked to keep the conversation going not wanting to return to the awkward silence again, instantly i wished i hadnt, his eyes turned hard a harsh frown apeared on his face although he quickly blinked it away before I could detect any other emotions.

He smiled slightly but I could tell it was forced.

“We’ve met a couple of times.” He replied vaguely and something told me he was being exactly that; vague, on purpose.

I shook my head it didn’t matter anyway, I wanted nothing to do with them anymore, I had to forget.

“Well this is your stop,” he gestured to a classroom on the left with ROOM 304 printed in bold over the door. I only just realised we’d stopped walking and I quickly poked my head in the open frame to see everyone else seated, damn I was late.

It was then I noticed we were alone in the corridor.

“Um, thanks, you should probably get going, from the looks of things I’m already late which makes you well... later.” I mumbled awkwardly, i couldnt bring myself to just walk away.

“Are you ordering me to leave?” his expression changed serious as anger filled his eyes.

Shit, he was definatly bipolar.

“What, no I was just saying that you um-,” i stutered; he began to laugh at my reddening face.

“Jeez I was kidding, your face, priceless” he chuckled.

He laughed again and I couldn’t help but join in, his laughter was contagious.

i suddenly realised how free and alive i felt, i was laughing for the first time in a few months and it felt as if a weight had been lifted.

“Your right I need to get going,” he said after sobering up, I nodded goodbye before turning into my classroom shocked to see everyone’s eyes on me, their mouths hanging open.

Well so much for laying low.

I grimaced slightly realising they’d probable seen the exchange outside the open door.

“I would say by being late, you were making a bad impression on your first day miss Phillips,” the teachers whose face mirrored everyone else’s, began to speak, “ but the alpha obviously doesn’t think so,” she smiled knowingly, I hugged my books to my chest.

 I sniffed subtly; she was a werewolf but then that was already obvious, the fact that she'd made a reference like that in the middle of class told me that pretty much all the student and staff, if not everyone in this school was a shifter.

 The only seat left was near the back and as I walked by whispers followed, I sat down and put my books on my desk.

“Hi!” Before I could even catch my breath the girl beside me turned in her seat to face me, I smiled at her over excited behaviour."i'm beth," she held her hand out and i took it hesitantly.

“Hi, i'm Kayde” i replied as she shook my hand enthusiastically her blonde curls fell around her face naturally as her smile only widened, i only had a few friends who were girls at my old school, and they were generally like me it wasnt that i had anything against girls but i just got on better with guys they were more easy going and calm. This girl seemed like the opposite.

"i know who you are, everyones talking about you" she said like it was nothing, i shrunk a bit lower in my seat, i hated Attention, “I saw you this morning, I wanted to talk to you but we were all under alpha orders,” she rushed out, practically bouncing on her chair.

She wrinkled her nose, “sugar-rush, sorry.” She explained. “Damn Mate thinks it’s funny to put 5 spoonful’s in my morning coffee” she said looking kind of annoyed but I could see the love shinning in her eyes as she thought of him.

 He alpha ordered everyone to stay away from me, i frowned, but that girl?

 “Um… ok,” I didn’t know how to react to this girls over friendly nature. “Wait, you said you were under alpha orders,” I frowned confused. “Then how come that girl came and warned me?” I asked.

“Oh Lily, yeah she’s the alpha’s sister so even though she’s not really meant to fight his orders, she still does, that just Lily for you.” She replied too loudly and i winced.

The teacher tapped her desk with her finger nails irritatedly, causing us to look up. She sent us each a pointed glare stating shut up, then indicated to the board where a bunch of unsolved math equations were drawn up.

We worked in silence for the rest of the lesson.
