The Joker eyes fluttered open, arms outstretched as he loosened his muscles. Harley lay sprawled under the sheets, Lucy tucked under the covers beside her, in a deep slumber. Her fair hair sat above her neck, mixing with her her pale complexion. The beam of light entering the room travelled along the bed, illuminating the alarm clock that sat still on the bedside table.
The bright red digits displayed 07:00. The Joker was always an early riser. Never once being able to have a good lazy day with Harley, it just wasn't in his adventurous and unpredictable nature. He always had to be active, hence the almost one hundred robberies, drug deals or jokes on Batman. But none of them could ever fill his need to cause mayhem, until his Harley Quinn came along. She was his partner in crime. The only person who could understand him at his most crazy. No one else could quite match her. Sometimes he even wondered how he became so lucky. To have a gorgeous, smart, psychotic woman lay beside him in his bed every night. It almost seemed like a dream at times. Once he even had to pinch himself to make sure he was not in some fairytale. She really perfected him, she was his shadow to light, evil to good, salt to pepper. She really completed him.
His pale fingers reached out, gently tracing her shoulder. She began to grow restless beside him as he continued to admire her. A perfect masterpiece of humankind. Lucy also began to stir. Her pale blue eyes sparkled as her eyelids separated, exposing her curious orbs. She stared at the Joker in amazement. A small hand reached out, wrapping its miniature fingers around his nose. He chuckled in response.
Lucy let out a high pitched giggle, but it slowly changed to that of crying. Her previously cheerful face was now red and tears began to roll down her cheeks like waterfalls. Harley suddenly sprung up in the bed, instincts kicking in as she stared at the Joker and back to the whaling baby.
"What did you do?" She asked, eyes narrowed as she picked Lucy up in her arms.
J huffed, snapping out of his joyful mood. "She just started crying. I didn't do anything." He sat up with a creak from the wooden bed frame.
"Babies don't just randomly cry!" Harley argued, rocking the small child in her arms, but her attempts were useless. The cries echoed throughout the room. A great way to wake up at 7 o'clock in the morning.
"How do you know?" The Joker retorted back, standing in front the bed as he shuffled to the counter in search of something to silence her.
"Just give me that!" Harley yelled pointing to the green pacifier on the cabinets.
He picked it up and threw it over to her. She placed it at Lucy's bottom lip, hoping she would accept it and stop crying, but it didn't work. Her bad mood continued and Harley was beginning to run out of ideas.
"Give her to me," J snatched her from Harley and raised her to his nose. He cringed, straightening his arms to hold the baby away. "Did you change her diaper at all?"
Harley was about to snap back until she realised the key thing she had forgotten. "Oh..." she looked slightly disappointed in herself at forgetting one of the most basic tasks. She had even bought diapers but it completely slipped her mind.
"Here." He gave the baby over, along with a packet of diapers that Harley kept under the bed.
"Why do I have to do it?" Harley whined, easing herself off the bed with two cracks from her knees.
"You wanted the burden, you look after the burden." He snarled, crossing his hands behind his green hair while he lay outstretched on the sheets.
Harley let out a deep sigh of frustration. But he had a point. So with that in mind, she marched off into the bathroom, bracing herself for the horrors that would come next.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door of their master bedroom. The Joker reluctantly shuffled over, deciding if he should open the door to this person in his Batman boxers?
He didn't care personally but he had a reputation to keep so before he opened the door he slid on a purple tracksuit, but left his torso bare.He opened the door slightly, hiding the rest of the bedroom. In front of him, standing in a fine black suit with dark polished shoes was one of his well-paid henchmen. Rocco Mason, a tall, well-built man with dark and sharp features. He had a short black stubble with vibrant blue eyes. He had a long scar that went from the bridge of his nose to under his left eye, but his long dark hair covered it well.
"Sorry to bother you boss, but I have word that Penguin is looking for a partner in a drug deal." He informed his boss groggily. Fingers fumbling together in front of him as his black rubber gloves squeaked from the friction.
"Get me a phone." The Joker ordered, running a hand through his green, disheveled hair as he attempted to tidy it up. His eyes were dark and his lips were pale from the absence of his usual makeup.
With a nod of his head Rocco walked down the hall to find J's work phone which he occasionally kept in his office. The floorboards creaked under the weight of the large man as it soon began to grow distant. An opening of a door was heard before the footsteps once again began to approach the door where the Joker stood, picking dirt out from under his nails.
He swiped the phone off his bench mans palm, dialling a number. "Pengy!" He exclaimed, tone suddenly light and cheery as a rather raspy and tired voice could be heard on the other end.
"Who is this?"
"It's J!" He grinned, waving his hand to Rocco as the henchman took it as a sign to leave.
"What do you want?"
"I heard you're looking for a partner in a drug deal."
"You already owe me money Clown. Why would I partner with someone who is low on income?"
"Oh come on Pengers! You know I always make my money back." He reminded, a cheeky and hopeful smile appearing on his face.
"You haven't been very convincing lately." Penguin retorted.
"Well you know I'm the best man for the job here! What other options do you have?" J began to grow desperate. He had no other choice right now and Penguin was the only one that ever had good deals and big profits.
"I received a gracious offer from Poison Ivy." J could practically hear his smirk at the mention of the plants name.
"You know the weed has bad reputation with partnerships! Each job goes bust!" He snarled, offended that Cobblepot would even consider the plant over him.
A dark, sinister chuckle was heard before he spoke, "You seem desperate Clown."
"Listen, everything I owe you right now can be earned from this deal if it goes to plan. You keep the profits until I am no longer in your debt." He offered, fingers crossed behind his back. "Deal?"
There was silence on the other end, until the words he was waiting for replied, "Deal. I'll be at your club tonight at 8 to discuss the plan." With that he hung up.
The Joker was jumping with joy. He will finally be no longer in debt and maybe be able to make profits off the club with a bit of spare cash. Maybe he could buy better strippers, or more luxurious drinks that customers can't get anywhere else.
The next second Harley reentered the bedroom from the ensuite. Lucy had calmed down now and she had a bright smile on her face. The Joker ran over and lifted the two up in his arms. Harley giggled uncontrollably at his sudden actions.
"What's got you in such a good mood?" She questioned curiously, hands holding onto his shoulders for support as he hoisted her up into the air.
"I just bagged us a drug deal with Pengy tonight! So wear your finest clothes!"
