Hunting Hubris

An Empire?

Have you ever gone from hating a person to wanting to squash them in a bear hug in a span of two hours? Have you ever felt that Cinderella's guardian Angel has sprinkled her magic dust over you mistakenly? Have you experienced the euphoria that happens when your dreams begin to take shape?  If you haven't I think it's time for you to buy tickets to a concert and loose drumsticks to a stranger. Trust me, wonders will happen.

"I still can't believe this" mumbling for the millionth time now, I stared at the contract before me. "I still can't believe this" Alex mumbled for the billionth time by now. "Me too, even I can't believe this" Symphony followed. "Will you all just shut up" the command was just a whisper by Rishab which received a affirmative nod from Rio, who were also in the same trance as us. All five members of our band were huddled over our 'Golden contract' which was now elegantly seated over my coffee table and we have been whispering our unbelievable-ness for the past one hour.

"Quit that, you guys are driving me insane. I'm seriously considering the idea of burning the contract." Mom sighed not taking her eyes off the television.

"DON'T YOU DARE" our chorus echoed.

As you would have guessed by now we aced the audition. And it wasn't some silly audition as we thought intially. On reaching the venue on time (which was a miracle), we were escorted to a enormous music room where we were asked to give our audition. Apparently 'THE WOODS' chain of hotels was just a small venture of the 'Great Dara Empire' and the board members of their music enterprise, 'Melos international' were on a hunt for fresh young and twisted music talents to spice up their venture. After some really influential recommendation, they have considered auditioning us. We were judged by a pannel of few music experts  and the board members who were comfortably seated behind tinted glass which effectively hid their identity. 

If you were applauding us for wonderfully performing in the audition under pressure after knowing all these details, please stop right there. I appreciate your blind trust on us, but we actually aren't that confident group you imagine us to be. Our crazy troop was blissfully unaware of all those mighty details while we gave our audition. Only when we were handed the contract which said ENSEMBLE have cleared the screening and is now one of the seven bands being considered for the launch, we gained all the mind-blowing  details about 'Dara empire'. And sweet little Sam wasn't strong enough to hold the excitement and anxiety, thus fainting just infort of the music room.  Though being utterly embarrassed by that stunt, my friends were kind enough to carry me home and dump me in my bed.   

After regaining conscious, me with my group have been thanking our stars and worshiping the contract ceaselessly which has been testing my mom's non-existent patience.

"What are these morons upto now?" Arjun entered the room.

"Why are you always in this house?" Rishab retorted with a curious tone and well concealed displeasure, which only I was aware of.

Arjun raised an eyebrow. His face appeared rather amused than insulted. Being more perceptive than me, it was natural of Arjun to try and decode the meaning behind Rishab's words. Though not being sure, I had a little guess on what might be the reason behind the ever calm Rishab's hate towards Arjun. But I'm sure Arjun would find it before me and take necessary measures to not let the issue out of hand. So I shrugged, throwing the issue out of my mind.

"We are a family Rishab, of which you are a part too. So don't ask these silly questions. And Arjun wipe that frown out of your face, the kid was just pulling your leg." Mom chided light-heartedly with a smile.

"Kid? Mom, put your specs on. We are just two years younger to Arjun." Matter of ego, I can't stop Rishab.

"That doesn't make you any less of a petulant kid" Arjun retorted and started helping mom in the dining.
