I was sitting in my warm bed wearing my astronaut pajamas when Delta stormed in. She looked angry as she threw herself into bed and wrapped herself in her comforter.
"Gamma come read to us!" I smiled as she walked in and sat at the foot of my bed.
"Pick a letter," she said flipping through the pages.
"D. For Delta," Delta sneered.
"Alright. D. D d d d d. Okay tonight you're going to learn deficit. Deficit means an amount that is less than the amount that is needed," Gamma closed the book harshly and put it on my trunk.
"Wait but what does that mean?" I asked sitting up in bed.
"It means... say I have four dollars but I only needed two. Or Delt, if I have two shirts to change into but only need one," she turned the light off.
"I have deficit dreams!" I declared loudly.
"That doesn't make sense," I could almost hear the eye role.
"Fine. Goodnight Delly!" I beamed as I turned on my side.
"Night You two. Don't stay up and talk," she ordered.
"Okay Gam gams. We won't," I yawned as she closed the door, submerging the whole room into darkness.
"Hey Epsie. Wanna go on an adventure?" Delta hardly waited more than a few seconds before asking.
I let out a slow sigh and sat up in bed.
"An adventure to do what?" I questioned, intrigued.
"Well they don't let us in the training room. I want to see what we're missing out on!" I heard her comforter fall to the floor as the door slowly opened.
"I dunno. We could get hurt. There must be a reason we aren't allowed. Alphie and Betey are never mean about that sorta thing," I pleaded.
"Come on you big baby. I've been here for a year longer than you. Lesson number one; Always stick your nose where it isn't wanted," she informed as she grabbed my wrist and dragged me from me bed.
I rubbed my eyes as we snuck through the hallways.
"What do the older kids even do this late?" I squeaked nervously.
"They sacrifice the naughty kids to the Samoan Bird king," an eerie voice said from behind us.
I let out a scream and jumped in the air, flinging myself around to see who had said that.
My socked feet slipped on the floor and, like dominos, I fell onto Delta, sending us both to the ground.
I stared up at Alpha who had his arms crossed over his chest.
"Alphaaaa do you really need us to go to bed?"
Delta attempted to sweet talk him."Yeah! We were.... hungry!" I declared even though my stomach could hardly handle any more food from dinner.
"Then why aren't you going toward the cafeteria?" He raises an eyebrow.
"Lesson number two..." delta trailed off as I stood.
"RUN!" She screamed grabbing my wrist and giving it a tug.
I heard Alpha sigh as we ran away.
We turned down the hallway towards the training room.
"Lesson Three-" she stopped to pant "-when you're woefully unprepared to run, hide-" she stopped to take in a quick breath.
"Hiding simulator activated-" Spot chimed.
Suddenly walls slid up from the floor in the form of a maze.
"Quickly get in the maze!" Delta squeaked giving my back a quick push.
I hurried into the opening of the maze and looked around.
"I just realized I don't like mazes," I murmured as I walked down numerous long pathways.
"Then lets go over the maze," she locked her hands and held them out.
"I'm fast and smart. You on the other hand need the advantage," she said as I leaned a hand on her back.
"The wall is too high!" I sighed as I stepped onto her hands.
"Lowering walls," Spot announced.
I smiled as the walls lowered to an inch or so below my chin.
I jumped slightly and pulled myself onto the top of the hard walls.
"But now they're too small! Alpha will see you right away!" She stomped her foot angrily.
"Raising walls," Spot obliged.
Suddenly the walls started growing much taller than they had before. I held tightly to the wall as it stopped only two feet from the ceiling.
I looked down at the maze and let out a scream.
"Delly it's too high get me down!" I cried.
"Spot keep the walls there," Delta said as I heard the door slam open.
"Delta and a Epsilon you're in big trouble," I heard Gamma snarl.
"Lesson number four. Don't say a word," Delta bellowed up to me.
I heard footsteps and I had to keep from crying out for someone to help me as Gamma passed near me.
"I'm gonna fall. I'm gonna die. I'm never gonna read a dictionary!" I whispered to myself.
Suddenly I heard a voice that sent chills down my spine.
"Spot," Beta commanded.
"End simulation."
Suddenly the walls started to retract into the ground.
"Epsilon and Delta get over here," Beta snapped pointing at the ground in front of him.
As soon as the walls and ground were the same night I sprinted towards Beta and stood directly in front of him.
"I got the trolls for you princess. Perhaps a kiss is in order for the brave knight?" Beta smirked leaning towards Gamma.
She rolled her eyes and smacked her hand into his face before shoving it away harshly.
"The steed worked hard too and you don't see me kissing him do you?" She chuckled and then glared back at us.
"Go to bed. I'm done with you Delta. You're being a bad girl tonight. Tomorrow you both go to bed at eight," she snapped.
"I'm sorry Gam Gams," I cried wrapping my arms around her torso.
"Don't be sorry. Be smart, and don't make any more mistakes," she snapped.
