Day 9: wearing ugly Christmas jumpers

This was one I didn't really feel inspired until I started writing, but I think I kinda like it.

Tony and mike had met at an ugly sweater party at a mutual friends house when they were seven years old. Neither would ever forget that day, because it is the day that they met their best friend.

Ever since the two boys had met at that sweater party, awkward and alone as the "reject friends," being that they were both younger and not exactly friends with the kid despite them both being there. See, the boys were both three years younger than that party's host and most of the other guests, Mike being invited because his brother was, and Tony being in one of those moms-are-friends situations.

Mike had gotten bored and lonely amidst the nine and ten year olds that seemed so damn old to him and decided to talk to Tony. He walked over him before plopping down next to him on the couch, the tacky bells on his sweater ringing as he did so. "Hi. I'm Mike, what's your name?"

Tony gave a wave and a smile. "I'm Tony," he said quietly.

"Want to be friends?" Mike had asked excitedly. Tony nodded, and that's where it all began.

The two thirteen year olds sat awkwardly at the same ugly sweater party they had met at. It had become an annual thing, and every year both boys got dragged along despite the fact that no one had much interest in talking to them, apart from each other, of course.

Like they always did at these parties, they sat awkwardly at the table eating with the other guests, occasionally speaking to answer a question, but mostly remaining silent. Then, they would announce the winner of the contest, being Vic like every year because the hosts brother Kellin got to pick, and he had the biggest crush on him. Then Mike and Tony would make their way upstairs where they could lay around and talk and just be themselves.

During these times while they sat upstairs alone, they did that amazing thing where you talked about everything and nothing at all. They talked about funny stories they had heard at their schools that they'd been saving until they saw each other again. They'd talk about music and books and movies and anything you could think of really. And those times they spent snuggled together just talking were definitely their favorite.

Both boys were fifteen as they sat at the round table, talking and chatting with the older boys. Finally having grown old enough that the age difference was not so colossal, they were finally included in the conversation. Though, that being said, the two still would sneak upstairs together, because they had always preferred each others company above all others.

That year, Vic did not win the sweater contest. Since him and Kellin were now officially dating, it had been decided that it was not fair for Kellin to pick. Tony had won that year.

Laying on the futon together at that ugly sweater party at fifteen was when they had their first kiss. They weren't quite sure how it had happened, it just had. And it was amazing.

Two boys stood on the small platform placed on the beautiful black rocks of the beach. They stated breathless at eachother, wowed by the other's beauty.

And when they finally heard that question, they couldn't think of how they could ever say no. The same words fell from both men's lips.

"I do."

And when they kissed eachother for the first time as husbands, they were happier then they though possible. And all because of an ugly sweater party when they were just seven years old.
