Day 24: sneaking the others gift under the tree

~~~~~~~~~~
I held my finger up to my lips, signaling Frank to be quiet as we made our way down the rickety stair case, gifts tucked under our arms. The soothing crinkling of the wrapping paper and the creaking of the steps seemed to reverberate in the quiet atmosphere of the night.
Tiptoed carefully across the soft carpet, we placed the presents under the tree. We slid back up the stair case, grabbing more gifts before making the journey back to the tree, quicker this time.
A loud thudding noise resounded through the room as a present toppled from Frank's grip. I looked at him, then back to the steps, his eyes following mine. Luckily, no Bandit stood in the stairwell. He scooped the present from the floor, wrapped in golden paper and placed it under the trees with the others.
After one more trip we had at last successfully planted all presents under the tree with no screaming babies or awakened toddlers. We sighed, feeling victorious and tired as we both sat on the love seat together.
"Mission success?" Frank asked, eyebrow raised.
"Yup. Check on the babies?" I asked, needing an excuse to get my present to him under the tree. He nodded, heading up the stairs.
I quickly made my (Mikey) way up the stairs, trying to keep my footsteps soft and quick. I slid into our room, taking the small box out from under the bed. Tucking it securely under my shirt, I had already begun the voyage back to the tree.
"Gee, what you doing down here?" Shit. Frank.
"Just getting a drink, Frankie dear." My heart pounded mercilessly in my chest. I really wanted this to be a surprise. "You can go to bed."
I could here his footsteps coming around the corner, quickly, thinking fast, I slid the box into the cabinet and slammed the door quickly. He wrapped his arms around me, relief flooding my veins in a tidal wave. "Don't be long, baby," he said, kissing me before heading back up the steps. I waited until the sound of him traveling up the stairs was no longer heard before I left the kitchen. I slid the present under the tree, quickly running up stairs.
I slipped under the covers, sliding in next to my husband.
"Merry Christmas, Frankie."
"Merry Christmas."
