Chapter One:
Beeeeep... Beeeeeep... Beee-
I slam my fist onto my alarm clock to make it stop beeping. One more year, just one more year.
I hop up out of bed and stretch. Finally, Senior year! I smile trying to be positive.
"Beaaa!!!" Caleb yells banging on my bedroom door.
I roll my eyes. My annoying brother, Caleb, is also a senior. Except he's such a nerd.
"Caleb! Stop banging on my door!" I yell at him.
He swings open the door and looks at me with a stupid smile on his face.
"You ready??" He asks.
I get up and push him out the door. "I'll never be ready unless you leave!"
I slam the door shut and walk over to my closet. I pull out a tight black V-Neck shirt, dark blue skinny jeans, and a pair of black and white converse.
I slip on my clothes and quick put on some mascara. Then I braid my long blonde hair and call it good. I examine myself in the mirror and sigh. One more year.
I walk down the stairs and into the kitchen. My dad and Caleb are sitting at the table reading the newspaper and my mom comes up and gives me a kiss on my forehead.
"Morning Sweetie," she says smiling.
"Morning," I say.
I grab an apple on the counter.
"Come on Caleb!" I say to him walking out the door.
I hop into his car and take a bite of my apple. After a couple minutes he climbs into the drivers side and starts the car.
"Aren't you excited!?" He asks brightly.
"I just can't wait." I respond sarcastically. He shakes his head.
He changes the subject, "did you hear we're getting new neighbors?"
I look at him. New neighbors? I wonder if they have kids.
"No, who?" I ask now interested.
"Not sure. But I heard they have a son who's starting at Divergent High here." He turns the corner into the schools parking lot. He turns off the engine.
"Try and make new friends?" He asks pleading.
"What's wrong with Christina?" I ask defensively.
He shrugs, "nothing, nothing. Just...forget about it. It's our senior year, let's have fun. Okay?"
"Yeah. What ever," I say getting out of the car.
I walk through the main entrance and I'm greeted by a squealing Christina.
"O-M-G! Tris! How are you??" She sets her hands on my shoulders and smiles big.
I smile and laugh. Why am I even friends with this loser?
"I'm fine Chrisy! Gosh, how about you?" I ask. We walk side my side down the hallway to see who's new at our school. This is something we do every new school year.
"O-M-G I'm doing great! I went school shopping yesterday and got a ton of cute stuff! We should hang out soon so I can show you!" She exclaims. I'm not really listening though. I'm looking around at the new students. I wonder which one is my new neighbor?
Christina elbows me in the side. "Tris!"
"Huh? What?" I ask coming out of my daze.
"What's your schedule girl??"
"Oh," I respond pulling out my schedule from my pocket. I hand it to her.
She reads it out loud, "okay, first: English 12, second: World History, third: Honors Science, forth: Studyhall, fifth: Band. God Tris your a nerd!"
I elbow her, "keep reading!"
She shrugs and continues. "Sixth: Advanced Trig., and lastly: Gym. That's not too bad, I have second, third, forth, and gym with ya!"
I nod. I just can't wait to get this day over with. I have a bad feeling about this year.
