Chapter Fourteen:
"What is the meaning of this?!" Marcus yells angrily as he approaches us. Tobias jumps off me and he backs away with his eyes wide. I pull a blanket from his bed to cover my chest. This is not good.
"Marcus," Tobias says cautiously. "I can explain-"
"No!" Marcus interrupts. He steps up to Tobias and slaps his face. Hard. Tobias falls back against the wall behind him.
"Stop!" I scream at him while trying to get off the bed. Marcus glares at me and shoves me back down.
"Get out, Prior! Your lucky I'm not putting you in jail!" He hisses.
My eyes fill with tears. "I'm not leaving," I say trying to keep my voice from shaking.
He glares at me again. If looks could kill, I'd be dead. He stomps over and grabs my hair. I scream as he drags me out the door and throws me to the ground.
"Get OUT!" He yells slamming the door behind him. I struggle to get to my feet outside the door. I place my ear to the door and listen. I don't dare open the that door again.
"--What the hell do you think your doing with that girl?" Marcus demands. There's only Silence. "God damn it answer me!" Marcus yells and I hear something bang against the wall.
I cover my mouth to hold in a sob. I need to help him. But how? I can't just barge in there.
"Marcus..." I heard Tobias say weakly. "She's just a friend, I-"
My heart breaks. A friend? No. He's just saying that to defend himself from getting in trouble, right? I hope--
"A FRIEND? You don't make out with a friend Tobias!" Marcus yells interrupting my thoughts. I hear what sounds like a cracking noise. My eyes widen as I hear footsteps coming towards the door. I take the blanket and wrap it around myself as I run down the stairs.
Don't fall, don't fall.
Tobias' bedroom door slams open as I run outside and onto the sidewalk. By the time I reach the my front door I'm sobbing uncontrollably.
I swing open the front door to my house as Caleb causally walks downstairs with a book in his hand.
"Hey Tris- OH MY GOD!" He drops his book and runs up to me. I slam the door and slump down to the floor.
His eyes are wide while he searches my face for an answer.
"Tris? Tris! Oh God! What happened?" He asks in a panicked voice. He touches my check with his hand.
"He- I-" I try saying but I'm out of breath.
Caleb's eyes spark with anger, "What did that asshole do to you?" He demands.
I shake my head quickly, "No! No, it-it wasn't h-him."
His eyebrows turn down in confusion. "Then what happened?" He asks.
I wipe my tears away with the heels of my hands and I let out a long sigh.
Do I tell him? He could spread rumors and Tobias would have to move. Or do I tell him and maybe Tobias will be okay? What do I do?
"Marcus... he b-beats Tobias, I-I mean Four, and I was there w-when it happened," I say quietly. I have to take my chances.
Caleb's eyes widen. "He what?!" I avoid his stare and and instead look at my hands. I wonder if Tobias is okay...
"Tris," he takes my face in his hands. "Where is he now?" He asks seriously.
"H-home, but-" I can't finish what I'm saying because Caleb quickly gets up and runs to the kitchen. I slowly stand and follow him down the hallway to the kitchen. I hold the blanket tight to my chest. It smells like Tobias, it smells like safe. I wonder how Tobias is doing now? I hope he's okay. But apart of me knows he's not.
"Hello? Oh yes, I'd like to report abuse," I hear Caleb say from the kitchen. My eyes widen and I fling myself into the kitchen and see Caleb on the phone; calling 911.
My heart races. He can't do this, Marcus will kill Tobias. I can't loose Tobias, I can't. I need to do something. I press my hands to my forehand and I suddenly feel faint and dizzy. Then everything goes dark.
