Instead, I dreamed of that horrible night, that had changed my life forever.
It was one of the rainiest nights I had ever seen. It was as if the sky was crying, and perhaps it was.
It was 9:00 and my mom was still hadn't come home.
But neither my father and I was worried. Mum came home late all the time.
But honestly, the innocent, gullible 12 year old me probably wouldn't be bothered even if the situation was dire.
We were passing time by eating takeout from McDonald's and playing Monopoly to pass the time.
Ding, dong. The door bell rang.
"Mommy," the little me screamed rushing towards the room arms flailing.
I opened the door, and my eyes grew wide.
"Daddy?" I whimpered and my dad rushed out.
"Is this the Dawson family?" The officer asked grimly.
My dad nodded looking afraid, "How may I help you?'"
"I'm really sorry sir, but your wife was in a severe accident."
My dad face became white, "Is she okay?"
He looked down, as if he didn't really want to tell us this,"she didn't make it,sir"
My dad let out an unmaskable wail, and I saw the policeman looking up to the sky as if complaining to God about how much he hated that he had to this.
"She's in better place now, sir."
"But she's not with me," he whimpered.
I screamed knowing what was going to happen next and my eyes shot open
~
"Ally, Ally are you okay?" Austin said stroking my hair.
"Yeah, I'm okay. What happened?"
"You screamed."
I shut my eyes and tried to breathe, " I was remembering that night. After, I had no one."
"That isn't true you always had me." He tried to calm me down.
"Even you left me."
"That wasn't my fault, I-I. I broke that day." He whispered.
I opened my mouth to protest but he was already asleep.
I placed my head on his chest and I was knocked out to in a few short seconds.
~
That morning when I woke up, instead of Austin's chest underneath me I felt a pillow.
I walked into his kitchen to see fresh, blueberry pancakes on the stove.
I grinned at him, "Still love pancakes?"
"Still can't go one day without them."
I laughed for what seemed like the first time in days.
"Still love pickles?" He teased.
"Yup, Elliot used to bring them for me," my voice broke. "Everytime he came home."
Tears had formed in my eyes now, "from being with Cassidy."
