How on Earth did River have such nice hand writing, was the first thought that went through my head after reading the note? Genuinely. All joined up, neat and cursive. God damn it, it made mine look like a two year olds.
When I'd gone downstairs, I found the whole team sitting at the huge oval table in the corner, which was covered in confetti.
"Happy Birthday Mckayla!"
Damn I felt like I was the celebrity here.
My eyes searched through the crowd for one person to no avail. Where on Earth had that idiot got to? Waking up to balloons and a whole lotta chocolate was the best thing I could have asked for.
"Eight o'clock." I jumped out of my skin when I heard a voice coming from beside me. Flicking my head to the side, I saw Harley looking like the fashion icon as usual. He plumped a red card in my hand before grabbing my shoulders and doing that wierd thing when you kiss the air next to them on both sides.
I looked at the birthday card and earnestly thanked him. I was momentarily shocked but quickly recovered at the friendly gesture. Regardless, I was pretty confused. "Eight o'clock? It's 9.15."
I watched in confusion as he laughed, clapping his hand together. Was I missing something? Well, it was clear that I was but I didn't know what exactly that was.
"Eight o'clock direction, silly!" He squealed as I clocked. Oh. Slowly, I spun around to my left to see River and my brother Spencer, walking towards us carrying lots of items wrapped in gold.
I was going to have a heart attack. Were they all for me? In the last years, I'd ended up getting the same old birthday badge, socks and nail varnish. Not that fluffy socks were bad. They were flipping amazing but it was nice to have a change.
Grinning, I walked towards them barely able to keep still. "Oh my god, are they- are they-"
"Yep, all for you," I heard River say from beside the box that he was carrying. "Oh and before I get all the credit, they're from your family too."
I snorted jokingly, "How selfless if you!"
"But mainly from River," Spencer chipped in, mischievously as he placed them on the table. I laughed throwing my arms around his shoulders in a hug, as he does the same.
"Aww! Thank you for all the chocolates and balloons. You didn't have too!" I said, although I knew I'd probably be annoyed if he had got me nothing. I felt his chest move as he chuckled. "You haven't even opened half of them yet."
-xXx-
I'd just finished editing the video with Joel and the techy crew. We'd added the brief credit at the end and it felt pretty amazing to see my name written under Director. I couldn't have chosen a better day apart from my birthday to finish everything up and the feeling of relief was incredible. But for some reason, I didn't feel the joy that I had once felt by making my own name.
