"Uh, ho-hold on. Wait just a minute." You heard Hiccup's confused reaction as you tailed him. His mother had said something but you didn't quite catch it, instead hearing Hiccup again. "You can't just say something like that and run off." He complained, trying to manoeuvre around the rock formations as he followed his mother. "You're my mother?! I mean what the..." He ducked under a part of the rock formation. "Do...Do you grasp how insane it sounds?"
But his mother said nothing, at least from what you could hear, and kept going. "I have questions!" He said loudly, trying to climb over a rock. "Where—ugh, have you been all this time?" You and Astra held back momentarily, allowing Toothless to nudge his rider over the rock and getting them moving again. "What have you been doing?" You picked up your pace as they got further ahead. You watched him stumble slightly. "They—They said you were dead! Everyone thinks you were eaten by..." He grew silent as he emerged into the clearing. You hung back again, waiting for both him and Toothless to move ahead so you could come through, your eyes filling with awe and surprise at the nest that lay before you. Hundreds upon thousands of dragons flew around, all in courtesy of the Bewilderbeast. There were a couple of baby Gronckles playing about on the grass, and an large dragon shot by, making Hiccup stumble back a little.
His mother and the Stormcutter clung to the ceiling, only grabbing Hiccup's attention with the help of Toothless nodding towards them. His mother watched him eagerly. "This is where you've been, for twenty years?" She nodded. "You—You've been rescuing them." She nodded again. "Unbelievable..." She peered at him curiously. "You're...not upset?" She asked. "What? No, I...I don't know. It's a bit much to get my head around, to be frank. It's not every day you find out your mother is some kind of crazy, feral, vigilante dragon lady." His mother only chuckled, shaking her head. She used her staff to lower herself from the Stormcutter, his wing lowering to gently place her on the ground. "At least I'm not boring. Right?" You watched in silence, a small smile spread on your face. This is so cute! You thought to yourself. "Well, I suppose there is that...One, specific thing." He said, as a dragon began sniffing at him and rubbing his snout against him, trying to be friendly.
"Do...Do you like it?" She asked, coming closer to her son. "I—I...I don't have the words..." As he said that, a group of dragons circled Toothless, curious to see a new dragon in the nest and wanting to get his scent. It made the poor Fury uncomfortable, even more so when one sniffed at his rear end, and you held back a laugh. He had enough of it and growled, making the circle break and scatter. You didn't hear much of what she said next, but watched as his mother interacted with Toothless. It was pretty cool. She looked up and made eye contact with you. "He and your friend's dragon may as well be the very last of their kind." You pursed your lips. She was wrong, but you weren't going to tell her that. Hiccup perked up though. "My friend? You mean (name)? Wait—where is she?" He looked around, his eyes landing on you. You gave a small, shy wave. Next thing you knew, he ran at you and tackled you to the ground in a hug.
"(Name)! Thank the gods you're safe! I was so worried and—" He looked at you sternly, "Don't do that again! I don't think I could loose you again." Your heart fluttered. You pushed to sit up, but he wouldn't let you. "Nope! You're stuck here, now." You groaned in annoyance, poking at his face. "Get off me, momma's boy." You taunted, poking your tongue out. He narrowed his eyes, and before you could register what was going on, you began to loose your breath as he tickled your sides. "Hiccup! Oh g-gods! St-stop it!" You gasped, laughing so much that it hurt. He smirked and stopped, getting up and holding out a hand for you. You narrowed your eyes and got up yourself, not trusting him after the sudden attack. He mock gasped, as his dragon and mother approached, her dragon not far off. "How did you both manage to get Night Furies?" She asked, chuckling at what happened moments beforehand.
"Well, Astra found me. Saved me from being murdered as a child. Some men were trying to cut off my father's rights to the land, because I'm his only child." You said, Astra approaching your side and nudging you with her snout. You turned and stroked her head. "She's all I've had for twelve years, before meeting your son." You smiled softly. She nodded. "So...you two are then...?" You looked up at her, then Hiccup, your face flushed red. "Oh! Oh gods no." You laughed nervously. "We're just friends." But that didn't feel right, and you could just spot a small frown forming on Hiccup's face, in the corner of your eye.
"Well, what about yours?" His mother asked, noting the awkwardness beginning to settle. "I found him in the woods—He was...shot down and wounded..." He said, looking a little guilty. You felt bad for him and moved closer to his side, brushing hands with him. He looked to you and smiled slightly. His mother looked at him for a moment before turning and showing him dragons, all whom had been hurt by Drago Bludvist and his dragon trappers. "And what of this?" She asked in disgust, lifting Toothless' prosthetic tail. "Drago and his trappers do this too?"
"O-oh...uh yeah...ha...well...crazy thing is—I'm actually the one who shot him down." She looked at him, confused. "Hey, i-its okay though! He got me back, right bud? You couldn't save all of me, could you? You just had to make it even, so...Peg leg!" He was patting Toothless and mucking about with him whilst explaining, lifting his amputated leg at the end and gesturing to it. He moved from your side and slipped onto his dragon, his mother still looking confused. "Erm, what did your father think of your Night Fury friend?" She asked, stroking Toothless's snout. "He didn't take it all that well. But, then, he changed. They all did. Pretty soon, everyone back home had dragons of their own." She looked at her son with a disbelieving look. "If only it were possible."
"No, really—" He was cut off by his mother. "Believe me, I tried as well. But people are not capable of change, Hiccup. Some of us, we're just born different." She said, telling us, or well, moreso her son, as he was her main focus, of the night she was taken, and how she tried to stop the killings of dragons, but having it be lead as an unpopular opinion. It was sad, hearing of how she was taken by her Stormcutter, Cloudjumper, and leaving her beloved and son back on Berk. But hearing how she made a change and saved thousands of innocent dragon lives, was incredible. "Wow, you're everything I inspire to be." You said in awe, secretly admitting that you wished you were like her in your protection of the Night Furies and their nest. "I'm very flattered, (name)." She said with a small smile and a chuckle. "How did you survive?" Hiccup asked. We followed her as she started to walk. "Oh, old Cloudjumper never meant to harm me. He...must have thought I belonged here. The home of the great Bewilderbeast. The Alpha species. One of the very few that still exists."
Hiccup looked onwards in awe, you too, but for different reasons. Only once had you ever met a Bewilderbeast in person, and that was many years back for a meeting of Alphas. You couldn't remember if this were the same one, or if it were different. The Alpha awoke and looked around, the nearby dragons landing and bowing in respect. "Every nest has its queen, but this is the king of all dragons. With his icy breath, this graceful giant built our nest. The safe haven for dragons everywhere." Hiccup furrowed his brows, eyes wide. "Wait—that's the ice spitter? He's responsible for all that destruction?" You put a hand on his shoulder. "Not destruction, Hiccup. Protection." His mother nodded. "(Name)'s right. He protects us. Looks like someone knows about Alpha dragons." You smiled cheekily. "Maaaybe."
You all approached the Bewilderbeast, him showing his recognition by turning to you. You and his mother bowed, Astra too. Toothless did so as well, but mostly as he felt uncomfortable under its gaze and rushed to respect such a grand dragon. Astra nudged him. "Calm down, Tooth. He won't hurt you." Toothless looked at her with a sideways glance. "Why aren't you as uncomfortable as me?" She rolled her eyes and let out a laugh. "Because I'm used to being around Alphas. I have one of my own, back home." You narrowed your eyes at them. "Shush, you're being rude." Hiccup's mother gave you a sideways glance. "Can you...understand them?" She asked curiously. "Yes," you said with a nod, "I learnt how to understand them from a young age. Sadly, however, that is the only way to understand Dragon Tongue." She nodded, in awe. "Fascinating."
The Bewilderbeast rose up to see its guests. Hiccup was the only one who didn't bow, instead frozen in shock and awe. "I've lived among them for twenty years, Hiccup. Discovering their secrets." She said, as the Bewilderbeast shot out a small burst of frost at Hiccup. You and his mother moved, so you wouldn't be hit, but some of it caught the end of your braid. "He likes you." His mother chuckled. "Wow." He was at a loss for words, but you could only think of how handsome he looked. You mentally facepalmed and shook your head to be rid of those thoughts. "Are you hungry?" His mother asked suddenly. "Uh, yeah. Sure. I could eat." She nodded once. "And you, (name)?" You smiled. "Yeah, food would be nice." She gave you both a smirk. "Good. It's feeding time." Toothless and Astra both were playful, however, and ran around Cloudjumper, ducking under his wings and sitting there. He huffed and moved his wings back, following his rider. Toothless and Astra looked at each other, before following too.
