Now that everyone was reuniting with their dragons, it was clear to see that this victory was less about gaining a new Alpha, and more about the compassion everyone had for their dragons. Watching Gobber especially, as he called for a cuddle and ultimately got squashed was very amusing. Astra nuzzled you, brushing past your side and making her way over to Toothless. You stayed by Toothless momentarily, stroking his snout and congratulating him on his new reign, as Hiccup gave Skulkcrusher to Eret.
Valka came over, taking his hands in hers, beaming at her son. You caught the end of their conversation as you approached. "I'm very glad you're here, mom." She smiled softly. "And here I'll stay." Toothless waddled over, nuzzling into her side, and Astra nuzzling into Tooth's side, as you approached Hiccup. "See? I told you he was in here." You said, pressing the button on his flight suit, which made the fin on his back pop out. You laughed and so did he, his laugh being more sarcastic than your own. He shook his head, but there was a huge smile on his face. "You're still doing that one. That's hilarious."
He innocently looked sideways, before grabbing your waist. "Come here you." He then pulled you into a kiss, a proper one in which you didn't bump your noses, and your teeth didn't clack against each other. You sank into his arms, returning the kiss you had, admittedly, waited too long for. He pulled back, looking into your eyes, before turning to see what had tapped him on the leg. You both looked down to see Gothi, who motioned for Hiccup to come forward. He did so with a slight nod, getting down on one knee as she dipped her thumb into the ashes of a dead fire. She marked on his forehead their symbol of Chieftain, then bowed before him. He rose, the ghost of a smile on his face, as Gobber exclaimed, "The Chief...has come home!"
And with that, the crowd erupted into cheers. There was a new weight on his shoulders, and he stood there with uncertainty, but with your gentle hand on his shoulder and slight glance back towards you, he knew he could lead this village by your side. The dragons shot streams of fire into the sky, setting off celebratory explosions to mark the era of two Kings; one dragon, one Viking.
But this certainly isn't the end of your tale.
