Why? Why do the gods hate me? Why do they leave me here?

I bolted upright in my bed. I heard her. I heard Calypso. But how?

"Valdez, what in Hades are you doing?" Nyssa hissed from her bunk across from mine. "Do I have to move you to sleep in Bunker 9 again?"

I glanced down at my watch. 1:42 am. This is the earliest her words have ever woke me. Which means I won't be getting very much sleep tonight.

"I- sorry. It was nothing," I replied, trying to ignore it.

"Go to sleep Valdez, we need our rest for..." Nyssa said before she drifted off again.

I wished I could sleep that easily.

Every night since I've met Calypso, she's haunted me. She speaks to me in my sleep, scaring me awake, when I had just imagined it. I see her in the shadows, only to find out it was just some harpy on patrol. I smell her cinnamon scented hair on the summer breeze, only to realize that it's just my senses tricking me once again. And when I really miss her... I can feel her kissing my lips ever so softly, just like before I left.

No person has ever had such an effect on me. Not even my mom after she died. It's almost as if she follows me, trying to tell me something but never gets the chance.

Sometimes I felt like I was going insane, which isn't all that unlikely after going through all that I did with the other six.

I sat there in my bunk, thinking, knowing I'd never be able to fall back asleep. I twiddled my thumbs and lightly tapped on the pillow, trying to keep my ADHD in the middle of the night as quiet as possible.

Just as I was about to fall asleep again almost an hour later, it came again, but this time it was personal.

Leo? Is this thing working? Leo answer me!

It was her. Addressing me. A brief image of her gorgeous face flashed through my mind. She was wearing a chiton again, the red one that looked so good on her. She was hunched over, her long auburn hair in a braid falling loosely over her shoulder. Her face was scrunched in concentration, looking directly at me. But as quickly as it came, it was gone.

C'mon Leo! Let that ADHD of yours go away for once and FALL ALSEEP! I only have one shot at this.

By that time, I was really weirded out. Yet, I listened, and got into a comfortable position, and for the first time in many nights, fell asleep.

Not even moments after my weird dream of Jason becoming a giant boot (just don't ask,mi was watching Avengers before I went to sleep) I saw Calypso again, but this time she came in clearly.

Leo! Oh, thank the gods this thing is working. Oh Leo, how've you been? Wait, don't answer that we don't have much time.

We? I thought silently

Oh, the we is Hermes and I. Sorry, I forgot to mention that. He gave me this one opportunity to create and empathy link with someone so I can deliver this message. But anyway. Leo, I've been here waaay too long. Hermes thinks so, your father thinks so, and also a few other gods. I need you to go to the gods and plead my release. I need to see you again, Leo. Help me, Leo, you're my only hope.

I love her even more, I thought, she just kinda quoted Star Wars.

LEO! She snapped. now is not the time to worry about quoting. Can you do this? She looked at me, pleading with her eyes.

Of course Calypso. But you have to promise me one thing when I get there.

Anything! She said, beaming

You have to kiss me again. On the lips. And don't make it shy either, I've been waiting a long time for you to do it again.

She flushed, then smiled shyly. Deal, Mr. Valdez. Goodnight, I'll see you soon.

Her face melted away to the depths of my mind, and I continued to dream.

"CHIRON!!!" I screeched hoarsely from across camp as I made my way to the Big House. "CHIRON I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!!!"

"Shut it Valdez!" Clarisse yelled from the arena. "We're trying to train here!"

"Yes, Leo. I would prefer if you didn't disrupt training," Chiron said, directly behind me.

I turned around slowly, blushing madly and smiling bashfully. "I need to talk to you, in your office please?"

"I could tell you needed to talk to me, Leo, I could hear you as I you screamed my name," he said, then smiled genuinely and laughed. "But yes, Leo, let's talk."

He clopped up into the Big House, leading me past the ping-pong table, mismatched sofas and chairs, and other random, and sometimes creepy, artifacts to his office.

He motioned for me to take a seat. I did, and automatically began to pick at the fraying fabric coming off the edge of the arm nervously. How would I get him to agree to a quest to rescue Calypso?

"You look edgy, Leo. What's going on?" He pushed, transforming into wheelchair form and sitting across from me, looking at me intently.

"Well... I-um. I sorta had a, er, dream last night," I stuttered quietly. "And Calypso was talking to me, except it wasn't a dream. It was a... What do you call that..."

"An empathy link?" Chiron questioned.

"Yeah! An empathy link. She asked me to come rescue her. She said she'd been there long enough, that her time was done. But she had to have someone come for her. And besides, I swore on the River Styx I'd come back and get her. I just never brought it up before even though I wanted to, but now I know it's time. I need you to grant me a quest to go rescue her," I breathed out before I would just act like it's nothing.

He sat and pondered for a minute, then said. "Well... She is correct. Her time there has been way overdue," he paused, them smiled lightly. "You really like her, don't you."

I blushed madly. "I, umm... Yeah, yeah I do."

He grinned at me. "I understand. What's your favorite thing about her?"

"Ummm... As much as I would love to talk about her, I need to know if I can organize a quest to rescue her or not."

"Yes, sorry. Let me ponder it overnight. I'll get back to you in the morning," he said, turning to face the wall. "You're excused, Leo."

I walked out of that room, praying to the gods that I'd be allowed to go.
