Falling Down (Levi and Mikasa)

Chapter Thirteen

The sun was starting to set with no luck of the survey corps finding them and they wouldve started heading back go the walls by now, staying the night in titan territory is way to risky.

Eren imagined everybody was in a panic about their strongest soldiers and humanities hope disappearing. How far were they in the forest anyways?

He stares down at the titans then glanced over at mikasa still breathing hard, her arm resting gently on her ribs. He pretty much had to force her to sleep. It took a lot and she spent too much energy on arguing with him.

Eren hears a groan and turns his head fast towards the sound. Captain Levi's eyes were finally open, his eyes looked more exhausted then usual, probably from the blow to the back of his head.

"Captain! How do you feel?" He runs up to him and asks, his hands resting on his shoulders.

Levi lazily shuffles out of his hands, "whats going on? Where are we....?" His eyes widen, "mikasa?" He sits up more to look for her and when his eyes set on mikasa, he crawls over to her.

"Be careful, shes injured," eren warns.

Levi scoffs, "those damned disgusting creatures. They'll pay for this."

"Sir, its almost night time..." the titan shifters voice shook.

He looks around, then stands, "ah, that it is," his voice plain.

"What should we do?"

"Havent heard or seen any of the others?"

He just shakes his head.

"Really? Just how shitty can this day get?"

Eren didnt think he should answer that question. Thing is with titans right below them, theres many ways theday coukd get worse and he thinks the Captain knows this.

"Do you think they'll come back for us tomorrow?" If they last that long. The abnormal titens have been trying to climb the trees. The others were starting to settle down with the lowering sun.

"Possibly but, i doubt it. Far as they know, they probably think we are dead. It'd be too much of a risk to come back on a whim that we are somehow still alive out here."

"What if i change into a titan and carry you two with me?"

"The titans would chase you down. Itd be difficult to fight them off and protect us. I think i could kill quite a few though."

"Are you sure?"

He glares at him, "do we have much of a choice? Mikasa needs to reach the infirmary as soon as possible. We'll wait a while longer."

Eren brings up his hands to bite it, sinking his teeth into his skin, blood spilled out but, nothing else happened.

"No.... this cant be," he tries again and nothing. Over and over again, desperatly trying to change.

A hand rests on his bloody one, "stop it. Clear your mind first."

"Yes, captain. Im sorry."

"Dont apologize, its annoying."

Eren watches the titans below, pretty much completely sick of looking at them. He wants to make it home, save mikasa. She wasnt looking so good. Her skin was too pale and something hes never seen before, she looked weak. They are running out of time.

He bites down again and this time it works. Lighting struck down, shaking the earth. Levi gently grabs mikasa, hoping on eren's shoulder as he lands on the ground.

Eren runs as fast as he possibly can, a few titens trailing behind him.

"When one gets too close, i'll kill them," Levi holds up his blades, a deadly glare across his face.

Mikasa's eyes open from all the movement, "Levi...."

He crouches down in front of her, his hand on her cheek, "hang tight, we are heading back home. Rest."

"Im glad you're okay..." her voice comes out as a mumble but, he hears anyways.

Levi jumps off, attaching to a titan who got to close, the sudden movement though mkaing his head feel dizzy. It wasnt enough to not finish the job though, as he swiftly cuts the titans nap. He lands back on Eren.

Finally, they could see the edge of the forest. With the creatures tailing behind, it felt like it took forever. Levi held his breath in, hoping they can make it out, hoping eren can run all the way back to the walls, hoping for mikasa to be okay.

There was more things he wanted her to be a part of in his life and the thought of a future flashes in his mind. A future with her, no titans. He wants to ask her if he can join in on the adventure to the ocean that he heard the three talking about. Almost reminding hin of the times him, farlen, and isabel would talk about living up on the surface.

Hopefully their dream has a better ending.

Levi bring down even more titans and he can see the wall in the horizon. Eren picks up speed, desperate to make it back alive. They are so close.

He grabs Mikasa's hand, holding it tightly. Her eyes reach his, as she sqeezes back but, it felt weak.

A small smile formed on her pale face, "i love you, Levi."

"Tell me that when we get home," he ruffles her hair.

"We'll make it.... i know it."

His eyes soften even when knowing that outside the walls everything is unexpected.

He can see the garrison getting the canons resdy to shoot. Not at them but, the titans chasing. The gate opens, they have to take them out soon. They cant risk getting them inside the walls.

The cannons dont hit all of them and Levi was forced to head back and kill the remaining ones. He is covered in blood. The gate closes leaving him outside the walls.

He has just barely enough gas to make it up the wall and when he tries, his equipment stutters, hes out of gas. Good thing he right at the edge of the top. He reaches out his hands, dropping his blades.

Levi falls, his fingers just brushing the edge. He curses at himself, he didnt make it and their was titans waiting for him at the bottom. He closes his eyes, he didnt know what else to do.

Suddenly something grabs his wrist. It hurt, and he winces. Opening his eyes, he didnt think he'd be so happy to see the person smiling ubove him.

"Hange," he says.

She laughs, "dont looked so shocked. How could i let my favorite shorty die?"

"Im so happy to see you," he unitentionlly blurts out. He wanted to slap himself, "and dont call me shorty, shitty glasses. Now pull me up."

And she does. Levi doesnt take a moment to rest. He must find mikasa.

"We already sent her to the infirmary. She'll be there waiting for you. You're so adorable when you're in love."

"Oh, shut it," and he leaves, without a thank you to her but, in his own way it kind of was a thank you and she knew it.
