"Hey! You think it snowed as much as it did in Minnesota?" both her parents were surprised.
"Well... we don't know how much it exactly snowed" her mother replied.
"Why don't you eat then you can go out and see for yourself... make sure you bundle up though".
"Okay, dad".
"That's my happy girl" he smiled.
Riley shrugged happily as she walked into the kitchen, poured herself a bowl of her favorite cereal, and walked back to her seat.
Reading the back of the box, she ate quickly then headed up to her room to change. Bounding up the stairs toward her room she eagerly went to her closet, taking out all her winter clothes she had brought back with her from Minnesota.
She set out her lovely green and yellow snow jacket—yellow and green were her all-time favorite colors. She got out her yellow and green ski cap and her light brown boots. "Okay, so what should we do first?" Joy asked, from inside the young girls' head.
"Oooo, Riley loves sketching and I just saw a bench that would be perfect! It's right next to this frozen pond... perfect" she pushed a button and Riley turned, walking in the direction of the bench.
Sitting down, Riley took out her sketchbook and a plain pencil and got to work. Turning to a fresh page she quickly did a rough outline of the pond in front of her... adding a weeping willow overlooking the pond. Looking at her finished work, she smiled happily—Man, I'm a pretty good artist she thought, setting down her finished piece beside her on the bench.
She then thought about doing some skating a bit. Grabbing her skates from beside the bench she began to change, pulling off her snow boots and tying on her skates. She wobbled gently over towards the ice-covered pond, testing the ice first to see if it was sturdy enough.
"Feels sturdy enough," she thought, taking her first step out onto the ice, doing a few laps to get warmed up. All seemed fine until...
