Chapter 83: A Happy Reunion

The guardians, along with Jamie and Sophie, watched as the two girls slowly turned and headed inside. Riley smiled to herself... Jack's necklace placed securely around her neck. Everything else was placed safely and securely inside her blue backpack-- Once Riley stepped inside, she was immediately embraced in a big, warm, hug.

"Oh, Riley-- where were you?"

"Oh, just out for a walk-- anyway, look who I found" Riley stepped to the side, letting Sophia pass.

"S- Sophia..." her mother said in disbelief. "Is that really you?"

"Yes it is, hello mom-- it's good to see you and dad again." Just then, their father walked in.

"Riley, you're back- how wonderful" he replied.

"Hi, dad... look who I found?"

"Hmmm..." he set the bowl of pink cake batter-dipped frosting down on the nearby breakfast/dining table. Coming up close to the stranger, he looked into her brown-ish blue eyes for what seemed like hours, until...

"S- Sophia...?" he gasped, "Is- is it really you?"

"It is, father" she replied with a nod.

"Oh, Sophia..." they both embraced her in a tight hug. "When we received that letter... and then, you didn't come back; we thought we had lost you..." they cried.

"Yes, where on earth were you two?"

"Well..."

"We were at The North Pole--" Riley exclaimed, "The evil Boogeyman, Pitch Black came back-- and I had to help"

"Oh, right... Well-- good on you Riley," their parents replied, slightly rolling their eyes.

"It's true though..." Sophia interjected.

Their parents only looked at each other and smiled. "Okay, now, up to bed you two... Sophia, there's an extra sleeping bag upstairs in the hall closet. You can sleep there until we go shopping for a new bed for you"

"Thank you, mother" Sophia smiled, following her sister up the stairs.

"Riley, I have something for you" Sophia replied, laying out a blue-ish green and pink sleeping bag out on the floor next to Riley's bed.
