CHAPTER 17: THE TRUTH COMES OUT

Monday, August 30, 2014

Dearest Diary,

Today’s the big day. Today is the day I choose. I refuse to be the whore that I always blamed Katie to be. I refuse to go back and forth between the two best guys in my life.

To choose Abe, my best friend who always seems to catch me when I fall, or Blane, the new boy who never lets me fall in the first place. Diary, I used to not know what to do, but now I do. I told Blane the plan, and he accepted it. He’s so accepting that I know if I choose Abe, he’ll still be here for me. I wish I could be as sure with Abe.

Isn’t it weird that I know Blane better than I know Abe? I mean I’ve known Abe basically my entire life. I just met Blane a week ago. Damn, a lot happens in a week, huh?

Well, here we go. Let’s hope Abe isn’t as stupid as his actions prove him to be.

XOXO,

Carter Rosenthal

I walked out the door with Abe’s hand in mine that morning. As we walked into MacArthur High, I made sure that Blane see us holding hands.

Furiously, he walked over to us, “What the hell Carter? I thought you chose me!”

“I thought so too, but then I saw Abe without a shirt and I was like damn I can’t walk away from that, right pumpkin?” I asked Abe as I kissed him on the cheek.

“Right, sweetheart,” Abe replied.

“Babe, I’m going to go to Chem, alright? I’ll see you soon. Meet some new people!” I said as I walked towards the Chem lab.

As Abe walked away, I hid behind the water fountain and waited for Blane. Blane followed me around 3 minutes after I left, and I ran up to him and kissed him on the lips.

“It was so hard to see you with him,” he said.

“I just wanted to be with you,” I said kissing him again.

“Now, let the prank commence,” he said deviously.

As Blane walked up to Abe, he said, “Hey, its cool that you’re with Carter now. I think you guys are cute. Honestly, between bros, I’m kinda glad I can be single and bang any girl I want now. You know, not the same girl over and over.”

He put his arm around Kelsey, a perky brunette in my Calculus class. Although she was confused, she didn’t reject him, but rather basked in the fortune that seemed to have struck her.

“Sup Kels?”

“H-H-Hey Blane, hehe,” she said giggling and blushing.

“You busy later?” he said.

“Actually, I kind of have a swim meet… but what about tomorrow? I’m toooottally free tomorrow!”

“Yeah, I’m gonna have to pass. Yo Jenna! Wanna chill later?” he said while grabbing another girl’s butt.

It pained me to see him so flirtatious, but I had to deal with it. I had to see what Abe would do.

“Bro, chill. Carter could be around here. She could see you. This would really hurt her,” Abe warned.

“Screw her. I can get any girl I want. I bet even more than you can, son,” Blane challenged with a wink.

“Excuse me?” Abe asked trying to size up Blane.

“Hey, woah, dude. Woah. Relax. Harmless fun. You have a girlfriend now, remember? Doesn’t matter what I say about your bachelor abilities,” Blane said while waltzing with a cute redhead to no music.

He spun her until she landed into Peter Glacier’s arms, a star basketball player in the sophomore class.

“Wait, you don’t think I could get a girl here if I wanted to, do you?” Abe asked.

“Doesn’t matter what I think,” Blane said.

Abe searched around for Carter and then stood up on the table.

He hollered, “WHO WANTS TO GET WITH ABE BARRON? FREE OF CHARGE! JUST ONE LITTLE HAND RAISE!”

Every single girl in the crowd raised their hands, which triggered some very angry boyfriends, might I add.

It was too early. He hadn’t really cheated, yet so I didn’t come out from the side of the building. Blane realized it was too early, so he tried to speed up the process.

“Hey, a little hand raise doesn’t mean anything,” he said as he grabbed Abigail from behind and kissed her on the lips.

“See that, Abe? Now, that’s a kiss! Can you do that?” he challenged.

Then, Abe went up to Carrie Hanshack and kissed her too. He even kissed Natalie Baker.

He’d gone too far. The prank was to see if Abe would cheat, not Blane. Now, I knew that Blane could cheat, and would do it if he had to.

“YOU SEE THAT ABE? I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT! IM BLANE FUCKING MCDONAGH AND I DONT LOSE! I GET WHAT I WANT,” he bellowed.

Just as I was about to reveal myself, I noticed Abe was approaching Abigail, Carrie, and Natalie, the three girls that cowered in fear as to what was happening to Blane.

“Hey you!” Abe said to Abigail.

“Please leave me alone…” Abigail started but never finished because Abe went up to her and kissed her smack on the lips. He did the same to Carrie and Natalie.

“SEE THAT BLANE? YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY HOTSHOT AROUND HERE ANYMORE!” Abe shouted.

I came out of the shadows right in the middle of the two boys. A tear slowly came down my face and I looked first at Blane and then at Abe with a face of true betrayal.

“I choose neither,” was all I whispered, grabbed my backpack, and headed to first period.
