Kris

My first game in the MLB  was today and I have to admit. I was kind of nervous. I know I didn't need to go out there and hit every pitch I see into the bleachers. I just needed to play my game, but waiting was the worst part.

I wake up early in the morning and go to make a pot of coffee. There was already some roasted but there was no one out here. I make myself a cup anyway and lean against the counter. I close my eyes and let the hot liquid slide down my throat, this was just what I needed.

I sit there for a second until I hear a guitar. I open my eyes and see nothing still. Then I see the door at the end of the hallway cracked open and notice the sound was coming from there. I take my coffee and quietly walked that way to get a better listen.

The chills were almost instant when I heard her voice. I stand frozen in my spot unable to move. As that soft voice fills my head the rest of the world fades out.

"From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on

From this moment, I have been blessed
I live only, for your happiness
And for your love, I give my last breath
From this moment on

I give my hand to you with all my heart
I can't wait to live my life with you I can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you."

Her voice... it reminded me of her eyes. It was one of a kind, it made you feel good inside. I can see the hairs on my arms stand up even with the warm coffee sitting in my hand. I've heard this song before, but nothing like this. So smooth and so powerful. She had a range like Whitney Houston and style like Celine Dion. It was nothing like I've ever heard before, and I was addicted.

I walk closer to the door and take a peak inside. She was sitting on her bed facing the window strumming her guitar. Her long hair falling down her back as the guitar was held up my her strong legs. Everything she did looked amazing. I couldn't tell if I was love struck or if she was really that incredible, but I think it's a little bit of both.

"You're the reason I believe in love
And you're the answer to my prayers from up above
All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you

From this moment, as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing, I wouldn't give
From this moment, I will love you
As long as I live from this moment on."

"You have a beautiful voice" I say and she whips her head around. I'm not sure why I said that but there's no going back now. She gives me a kind smile and sets her guitar to the side.

"Thank you Kris" she says and she moves her eyes to my cup. "I see you going the coffee" she laughs pointing her head to her cup next to her. I should have known.

"Yeah, I hope you don't mind" I reply.

"I don't. I always make more than I need, it's good to know it won't go to waste" she shrugs.

"I really liked that song" I say walking in a little. Her room was still pretty bare like mine. But she had some papers lying around and it looked like she had been writing and drawing a lot in here.

"It's one of my favorites. Plus you can never go wrong with Shania Twain" she insists. She pats the bed next to her and I hesitate. I think about what Anthony would say, but what he doesn't know doesn't hurt him. Right?

I set my coffee next to hers before sitting on the bed.

"So, how do you like Chicago so far" she asks.

"It's nice. I haven't been around much but I like what I see" I admit as my eyes catches hers. She laughs softly as she catches my under handed compliment.

"I guess that makes two of us" she smirks. I look over to her guitar that was pretty nice. It was old but that just means she loves it a lot. She picks it up and turns it to me.

"Have you ever played before" she asks.

"I wish. I never learned" I shrug. That's what happens when you spend your whole life in a batting cage.

"Well I can teach you... if you want" she trials off.

"That would be really cool" I smile.

She places the guitar in my lap and places my hand where it's supposed to be. She moves so she's right next to me and I smile over at her.

"Okay. Let's just start simple. Just strum the guitar" she encourages. I lightly run hand over the strings and I makes a decent noise. "Sweet, you're a natural" she claims and I laugh.

"I doubt that."

Next she shows me how to play certain keys. Where to put my fingers to make certain sounds and how to change keys.

"This is actually really cool" I admit once I started to get the hang of it.

"Glad I could take you mind off things" she smirks.

"You're my favorite distraction" I admit and she blushes.

A second later her door comes slamming open causing me to jump. I turn around and Anthony looked like a angry Dad who just found his daughter losing her virginity or something.

"You two stop where you are" he yells and I roll my eyes.

"For what" I ask.

"You guys were making babies" he accuses.

"We we're making music" she insists.

"I don't care what you call it" he claims. That's just weird.

She throws a pillow at him nailing him in his head and I had to laugh. That was funny.

"Why is your aim so good" he asks rubbing his head.

"Why are so annoying" she counters.

"Because that's who I am. And I'm also a person who is breaking up whatever is going on here" he says taking the guitar out of my hand and pushing me out the door.

"Anthony" Jayden whines and I reluctantly leave. This was his house and his rules and there wasn't much I could do.

But before I leave I turn back to Jayden. She waves and I wave back before being scooted out the door.

"That wasn't cool" I insist.

"I already told you... it's not going to happen" he claims.

"And I still don't get why" I admit.

"I need you to listen and listen closesly. Since I was three that girl has been my best friend. My whole life I did things and I did it with her. When I was sick she stayed with me in the hospital, I took her to her senior prom and she is a part of my family. Her parents sent her here under the pretenses that I'm protect her. So that's what I'm going to do" he says.

"I get that. But what are you protecting her from with me, exactly" I ask.

"From being hurt" he says. "-and I know you won't hurt her. Not on purpose at least. But this league, it's hard. We can be gone weeks at a time and she had to just sit around and wait for you. She is here to chase her dreams and I'm here to help her achieve them. She shouldn't have to worry about starting a career and you too" he defends.

"No one is worried about me besides you" I say and he shakes his head.

"It's a bad idea. Please... just drop it" he begs and I sigh.

"Fine" I agree. "I need your help preparing for the game anyway" I admit and he smiles.

"That's what I like to hear."
