Eric and I left a few minutes after Katlynn and her mom did. The traffic at school was terrible; it took us ten extra minutes just to get on the interstate.
Katlynn is so lucky her house is only a few miles away from school in the city, while mine is all the way out in the country. I thought to myself.
I was kind of worried about getting home on time, but I was happy to be with Eric and didn't want to rush the time I had with him. He looked over at me and started rubbing small circles with his thumb on my hand. He must have noticed that I'm a little stressed. I closed my eyes and leaned against his shoulder, taking a deep breath and trying to relax.
I felt something shake me and then heard Eric murmur in my ear, "Allie, wake up. We're at your house now." He was so close I could feel his breath on my neck, but I was too out of it to react to how close he was.
He shook me again. I opened one eye to glance out the window and groaned. I sat up and started to stretch. Eric got out and walked around to open the passenger door for me. I stepped out and felt the cold wind on my arms, I looked up and felt a droplet land on my forehead. A shiver ran up my spine when I realized I might have to camp in the woods in the middle of a thunderstorm. Eric was looking down at me with a small crooked smile. He looked so cute that I just couldn't help but cuddle up to his side. He always did have those puppy-dog brown eyes that drove me crazy. He leaned down and gave me a kiss; it was slow and romantic. Before I had time to react, he stopped and moved away from me. I opened my eyes and saw he was on the porch waiting for me with a grin on his face. I blinked my eyes a few times confused about how fast he moved.
"Allie, hurry up. I have to go to my grandpa's store after this," he said with a worried look on his face. Eric has worked at his grandpa's store for as long as I could remember. I hurried into the house with Eric on my heels. I looked around and noticed Aunt Sarah wasn't home.
I have to remember to call or something to tell her where I am.
He closed the door behind us as I ran up stairs. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was fifteen 'til four and started getting my clothes together as fast as I could.
I yelled,"Hey can you get some water bottles for me, Eric?" I heard him chuckle and knew he was thinking of the last thing I said to Katlynn.
"Sure!" he yelled back. I heard some thumping around down in the kitchen, and then heard the steps squeak as he came up stairs.
He looked at me through my open door with two water bottles in his hand and asked, "Ready to go?"
I grabbed my pink sleeping bag and my black back pack and said, "Ready!" As I went down the stairs, I missed a step and started to fall, but Eric was in front of me and caught me before I hit the steps. I looked up at Eric confused and thought,
How did he get in front of me? He was just behind me a second ago. Then I voiced what I was thinking
"How did you get in front of me?" I asked.
"Don't worry about it, Allison," he growled. He used my full name, and so I knew he was serious.
"Okay," I said slowly and then added, "Do you know what the weather's going to be like tonight? I really don't want to go camping in the middle of a thunderstorm."
He glanced at me over his shoulder and then looked up at the sky and said "It might sprinkle a little, but besides that it should be a clear night with a full moon." He said happily. I briefly wondered why he was happy about that, but then I figured he would be working late and was happy he wouldn't have to leave and drive through a storm and then,.. I realized something.
