Rose's POV

I was sitting on a bench in the middle of a clearing in a forest when I saw headlights from the front of the horses in the driveway. Thinking it was my father I ran out of the forest to meet him. When I reached the house the door was kicked in and there was a man standing lookout. The man turned and saw me staring at him. I turned to run, but I fell to the ground unable to move no matter how hard I tried. The man walked towards me picked me up. I started screaming and yelling hoping my dad was there, that he would save me from this man. He never did come to save me. Now I spend my time learning dragon weaknesses so I can kill them and their riders.

I woke with a start to a crash in the hallway.

"Where is she?!" a man yelled. I know it wasn't my father my captures showed me his dead body. I had cried for days not eating or drinking. I was dehydrated after a couple of days but I still sobbed. It had been my dad me, and my little brother for the longest time. One was gone- that I knew of, and the other was now running a country or he should be...

"I said where is she?" My heartbeat picked up as there was a loud ear-piercing scream.

"She is in... Through the door... That way." Another man's voice joined the others. There was another crash followed by a scream then silence. I jump off my bed and a run to my desk on the other side of the dark stone room. I just open my textbook about dragons when my door fell to the ground with a bang.

"Come with me." A deep voice came from the dust that formed when the door fell.

"How can I trust you?" I replied in shock.

"Do you want to get out of here?" I jumped up off the old wooden chair and ran into the dust and through the doorway.

"Let's get out of here." I ran down the hall following the figure that was at my door through the dust that had been unsettled by the door, as we heard people running down the hall in our direction trying to see what happened.

"Hurry up!" When the dust finally settled I got a good look at my rescuer. He had longish black hair. I lifted the edge of my skirt and yanked a dagger out of a sheath on my thigh- I had taken it from a man a few months ago- not that he noticed... The man that got me out of my room looked at me with funny on his face.

"What?" I asked him sharply slightly feeling insulted.

"Nothing." He paused. "I just think you were being smart." I blushed.

"Oh, thanks." I rubbed the back of my neck embarrassed. The footsteps got louder the closer they became.

"You should run." The man whispered in my ear, his breath sending shivers down my spine.

"I never run," I said confidently. The people rounded the corner with their guns raised and ready to shoot.

"Put the knife down, Rose. It won't do you any good." My dagger hit the ground with a metal clang. The man beside me flinched at the loud sound. Weird. One of the men standing in front of me there was something about the way he carried himself- it seemed familiar. Really familiar. From the way, his hair sat to the way he carried himself. It was all familiar.

"Good job, Rose. Now come here. We won't hurt you." I nodded acting as submissive as I possibly could. After I took a few steps I broke into a run. Jumped as I charged up my powers orange lit glowed from the palms of my hands. When I was overhead of my captors I shot a large fireball on all of them. I landed behind the now burnt bodies of my captors. I looked over my shoulder to see the man looking at me. I sent him a wink.

"Wow. You're amazing. They were right you are a dragon rider." I stopped breathing. My dad did say I was going to be someone important I just never thought that I would be a rider. Wow. Wait? How did he know? I was told by my kidnappers- the Eastern Kingdom showed me a document that said I was going to fill the world with dragons and their riders. They have scared me into training to kill dragons by threatening to kill my brother.

"You think that's amazing? Then you would think that this is even more amazing." I took I deep breath in. My lungs felt like they were burning. The burning sensation went to my throat as I breathed out. Flames shot out of my mouth and torched the men running around the corner.

"Holy fuck! You can breathe fire?!"

"We should get going." I started towards the elevator praying that we would make it out.

"Not that way. We should go that way." He pointed to a nearby window snapping out of his shocked state. I nodded knowing dragon riders can grow wings when they are in need of flying and their dragon isn't nearby. This didn't my brain was filling with fear before I remembered that fear is all in my head. My captors had taught me some things that would be useful in my life.

"Okay, first I need to know your name hero guy." I heard him sigh.

"We don't have time for names." I give him a look that tells him I wasn't going a step farther without knowing it. "My name is Jason Raymond. What is yours?" He asked me clearly annoyed at me.

"My name is Rose Belladonna." We heard the elevator raise to our floor with a ding. We broke out into a run at the large stained glass window.

"Jump!" I barely heard him over the sound of guns firing at us and glass shattering. I jumped through the window like a graceful bird jumping from a tree into the sky.
