Hey! So, this is my first story... wish me luck! Oh, and don't read this unless you've read the Heros of Olympus series (Percy Jackson), or you'll be really confused...
Disclaimer for the ENTIRE book: I don't own Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan does!
NOTE: The entire story will be in Callie's POV, unless stated otherwise (___'s POV)

Chapter 1
"Mom! I'm home!" I shout. My voice echoes through the house.
I'm home, home, home...
There's no answer. Mom's probably taking a nap or something, I decide. I drop my backpack onto our cream-colored tile floor, sighing in relief; my backpack weighs a little less than a ton. I trudge over to our kitchen sink and turn it on, listening to the whooshing sound it makes in the silence. Suddenly, I feel an eerie, cold prickling in the back of my neck. I whirl around, but there's no one there. Still, I turn off the water and quickly dry my hands off. My instincts tell me that there's something wrong, and I've learned to trust them.
"Mom?" I call out. There's no answer. I start to panic. She didn't tell me that she wasn't going to be home. What if something happened to her? What if she got hurt? What if someone got into our house and whisked her away? Stop it, I tell myself. Since my dad left when I was barely a year old, I can't bear the thought of not having a mom either.
I quietly pad through the hallway, past our huge floor-length mirror. I'm thankful now for the fact that I've always been able to move uncannily silently. I raise my head slightly to look up the stairs. My eyes sweep past the open doors to my bedroom and the guest bedroom, and then the firmly shut door to my mom's room. I take a deep breath and creep up the stairs, careful to hop over the creaky step that my mom refuses to fix. As I reach the landing, I pause for a second and listen for any unusual noises.
I hear a soft murmur coming from my mom's bedroom. I carefully step closer, and then closer; I put my ear to the door, and-
Creak. The voices stop, and I freeze, cursing silently. Oh, Hades! I had a habit of using godly swears now, because I was obsessed with the Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus series.
I hear the creaking of springs as someone gets up from the bed. I take a step back just as an unfamiliar man whips open the door, a centimeter away from smashing my nose. He stares down at me with narrowed eyes, an icy glare that makes me shiver in fear.
The man is tall, but not overbearingly so. He's about five inches taller than my thirteen-year-old 5-foot-4-inch height. His hair is pitch black, carefully gelled, not a strand out of place; he has eyes that are such a dark brown color that they're almost the same shade as his hair. Like mine, I realize. His face is rugged and pale, with a nose jutting out from his face. His mouth seems to be affixed in a permanent scowl.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" he asks, no, demands, harshly. My eyes are wide as I stutter, "I, um, I-I live here. Wh-who are you?"
My mom steps into view, her golden brown hair framing her icy blue eyes, and her mouth drops in surprise. "Callie! You're home so-I didn't expect you to be home so early!" I frown. "But mom, who's this? Are you hiding something from me?" I ask loudly, anger starting to build up inside of me.
My mom sighs and rubs her forehead wearily. She pauses for a second, and then exchanges glances with the man. He nods in apparent agreement, and my mom says, "Come in, come in. We have a lot to talk about."

Okay! First chapter, done! What do you think? I know it's really short and boring, but it'll get more interesting later, this is just the intro! I promise!
Pic on the side is Callie-- just imagine her without makeup, and a little younger.
