Chapter 19
"So Leo's definitely going," Annabeth concludes, "but who will the other three be?"
Leo has just finished explaining about how he had crash-landed on Ogygia and made a swear on the River Styx to find Calypso- the swear part made a few people get angry at how 'reckless' he'd been.
I fidget in my seat and reply, "I don't know. Does anyone else have a feeling that they should go? Like a tug in the gut? Be honest."
"Yeah, don't pretend that you have to go just so you can spend time around my hotness," Leo adds on jokingly, waggling his eyebrows. I laugh and elbow him before saying, "My hotness, too, don't forget."
"You wish," Leo teases. I roll my eyes and hit his arm.
"Anyway, does anyone?" I ask. Someone calls out, "Yes."
The person makes their way to the front of the crowd, and I see that it's Flynn.
"Hi, I'm Flynn Salvatore," he says to everyone. "I'm a son of Hermes."
Another person steps forward. Eric. He flashes a grin at the demigods and says, "Hey. Eric Atwater, son of Apollo."
"That's four people," Leo says. "We need one more."
"Thank you, Captain Obvious," I say sarcastically. Leo pouts and exclaims, "I was just trying to help!"
"Okay, how about..." Leo scans the crowd. "Nico?"
I raise my eyebrows. "Nico?"
"Yep," Leo confirms.
"Why me?" Nico asks curiously. Leo shrugs and responds, "Dunno. It just feels right."
"All right, then," Chiron says. "Callie, Leo, Flynn, Eric, and Nico will go on the quest. You will leave at 8 o'clock in the morning tomorrow. Dismissed," he says with a flick of his tail.

After I eat a hearty breakfast of waffles, bacon, and eggs, I decide to spend the rest of the day practicing with my weapons and powers in the sword arena. As Hephaestus had said, the new dagger he made for me is in it's sheath by my side, as well as the sword.
When I arrive at the arena, many campers are already there for classes. I spot Annabeth hacking at a dummy and go over to watch her. She slashes with her dagger and ducks as she fights an imaginary enemy. She finally severs the dummy's head from its body, panting.
As Annabeth sheathes her dagger, I approach her from the side and say, "Hi." She turns and smiles at me in greeting.
"Um, I was wondering if you could help me with my dagger? I mean, just the basics, so I can defend myself on the quest?" I ask, blushing.
I mean, this is Annabeth Chase we're talking about! A few days ago, I would be fangirling over the Heroes of Olympus with my friends; now, I've spoken with the Seven themselves, and now Annabeth Chase might give me lessons on how to use a dagger. Fangirl dream come true!
I feel a sudden pang. My friends. My mortal friends. How could I forget them? I wonder if they've been wondering where I am...
Annabeth smiles brightly. "Of course! Let's duel first, so I can get a sense of what you need to work on." I nod, and we step into the center of the arena. I unbuckle my sword from my belt and toss it off to the side.
"First to disarm wins," Annabeth says. "Do you need armor?" I shake my head and say, "No." It will only weigh me down.
"Then begin," Annabeth says, narrowing her eyes.
She slashes at my left arm, and I lean backwards before retaliating with a feint at her dagger hand. Right before my dagger hits hers, I twist my arm and change course to her shoulder. Annabeth's dagger comes up and blocks mine with a clang.
I immediately pull back and circle her, watching for weaknesses. Annabeth is frowning and watching me as well. Her eyes, which are dark gray and calculating, never seem to leave mine.
I look away, unnerved- that's my first mistake. Annabeth seizes the moment to attack.
I block her strike and drop to the ground. I do a forward roll and end up behind her, where I use my momentum to stand up again and stab at her undefended shoulder. I manage a small scratch that barely draws blood before Annabeth whirls around and swipes at me again.
Her dagger slashes my inner elbow, and it starts to bleed. I wince at the stinging pain before going into a defensive stance.
When Annabeth strikes at me again, I block her dagger solidly with mine.
Second mistake.
Annabeth locks her dagger's hilt with mine, and we push back and forth for a while- it feels like hours, but in reality it's only about ten seconds.
Annabeth twists her dagger slightly, and I lose my grip. My dagger falls to the ground with a muffled thump, and Annabeth points her dagger at my neck.
"I win," she says.
