Chapter 12

“So you’re saying that Callie here is probably the most powerful demigod to ever exist, besides me?”

All of the cabin leaders, Chiron, and I are seated around the Ping-Pong table for an emergency war meeting. Strangely, Dionysus is absent, but when I ask Chiron about this, he just shakes his head and shoots me a warning look.

       Huh.

Anyways, Chiron had just explained the full extent of my powers and my lineage to all of the cabin leaders, who are now gaping at me with their jaws hanging open.

Percy leaned forward in his chair, frowning. Chiron sighed deeply. “Yes, Percy. But we are still trying to figure out why she has power over water. Only Poseidon’s offspring should have that particular power,” he explains, his eyebrows knitting together.

“Maybe I’m related to some child of Poseidon? From a long time ago?” I suggest. “Did any children of Poseidon have kids?”

Annabeth’s eyes turn a dark, stormy gray as she frowns in concentration. “Not that we know of, but there’s always a chance,” she muses. Her frown deepens as she says, “And Callie’s healing power—I’ve never heard of anything like that before.”

Percy gasps in mock horror. “Annabeth doesn’t know something? The world has come to an end!” Annabeth rolls her eyes and suppresses a smile. “Shut up, Seaweed Brain.”

“You know you love me.” Percy grins.

They’re interrupted by a cough. “Are you done yet, lovebirds?” Nico asks. Hm. I wonder if he still has a crush on Percy. He doesn’t seem angry or anything, so maybe not… I’ll ask him later.

Percy and Annabeth both turn bright red and say in unison, “Shut up.”

“Aww!” I blurt out. Instantly, I turn the same shade of red as Percy and Annabeth. “Um. I mean, uh, sorry,” I stammer.

Chiron, who has been watching this scene with an amused expression, decides to spare me from extreme embarrassment by saying, “Well, as we were saying, we don’t have any explanation for Callie’s powers, correct?”

       Head nods all around.

Chiron sighs deeply. “Perhaps this is a case better left overnight,” he concludes. “Children, hurry off to dinner, now. I believe it will start soon.”

As if on cue, the conch horn blows, and we all file out the door.
