Chapter 9

(Adam)

Eva had been unconscious for three days and Adam had been keeping watch over her until she woke up. His father had forced him out of the Pure Blood House and the only place he could think of going was Eva’s house. When he had arrived her mother had been passed out on the couch, smelling of alcohol. Adam regretted taking Eva back but he knew it was the only way he could keep her safe. If she were anywhere else he wouldn’t have been able to safely keep an eye on her.

“I want you to at least eat something.” Adam pleaded, she hadn’t eaten since she left the hospital almost four days before. Eva was staring blankly down at a sandwich, not daring to look Adam in the eye. She had only taken a bight of the sandwich and she’d drank an entire bottle of water already. Adam was more than just worried but he wasn’t going to tell her that. He didn’t want her to know that he was worried about her safety.

“I’m not hungry.” Eva complained, pushing the plate away from her. Adam sighed, leaning against the fridge behind him. Reasoning with Eva was like trying to get a blind person to describe a flower; he wasn’t getting anywhere.

“Your stomach says otherwise.” Adam objected as Eva’s stomach growled. She blushed, pulling the plate back in front of her and grabbing the sandwich. She took a tiny bite, chewing slowly. Adam grinned, limping over to the table and pulling a chair up beside her. He watched her slowly begin to eat the sandwich, grateful that he had managed to convince her to get something in her stomach. She was already very skinny to begin with and Adam could see her ribs through the shirt she was wearing. It may have been over sized but every time it clung against her skin he could see the outline of every single one of her ribs and it was the most worrying thing Adam had ever experienced.

“I hate you.” Eva whispered and Adam chuckled, leaning over and kissing the side of her head.

“I know you do.” He laughed, getting back up and going to her fridge. He opened it, looking for something else Eva could eat. Adam frowned, there were dozens of bottles of empty beers near the back of the fridge. He didn’t like Eva being at home with a woman that drank so often but he wasn’t going to complain about it. This was the only place he could bring Eva and he wasn’t going to do anything to mess it up.

“Eat this. It’ll give you quick energy.” Adam ordered, grabbing an apple and tossing it to her. Eva caught it, staring up at him. He knew she probably didn’t want to keep eating but he wasn’t going to let her stop until he thought she had gained enough weight. Until then he was going to make sure she ate as much as possible.
