Chapter 7

(Adam)

Adam stood guard outside Eva’s room as the nurses looked her over. Keilor said he was going to meet him at the hospital and Adam was waiting nervously. He knew Keilor had to work hard to cover up that he had taken Colton into his custody. Adam had a feeling that if anyone found out Keilor would lose his job and he would be in more trouble than he had ever been in before. But Keilor had flat out told Adam that he would do anything for his future Luna, even if it meant losing his job.

“Sorry, had to pick up some stowaways on the way here.” Keilor’s voice made Adam stiffen and he looked up, seeing his friend followed by his mate and Izabella. Adam was surprised that Keilor had even brought the two of them with him but he wasn’t complaining. Eva seemed far more comfortable around the two girls anyway. Though Adam would rather it be just him and his mate he wasn’t going to risk her being uncomfortable, potentially setting back their relationship far more than Adam wished.

“Is she alright?” Leila asked desperately, her eyes wide with worry. Adam had originally wanted to throw the girl in a cell for the rest of her life after exposing the werewolf secret. But as soon as he saw Keilor look at her he knew there was no way he would ever be able to lay a finger on her. Keilor may have been Adam’s best friend but there was no way he was going to just let him take her. Adam would be the same with his own mate. Wolves mated for life, meaning Adam wasn’t going to leave Eva no matter what. Even if the rules forbid Pure Bloods to mate with humans, Adam was going to be the first to go against that law. No matter what happened Adam was going to stay by Eva’s side, even if it killed him.

“She’ll be fine. But I can’t say the same about her ‘boyfriend’.” Adam ground out, baring his canines. Ten minutes had passed before Adam had shown up and pried the man off his mate. By then she was already broken and bloody. Adam had been so tempted to beat the crap out of the boy but there were too many humans around. He had managed to drag the boy out of the hospital and to the Pure Blood House before he landed his hits. It took everything in him not to rip the boy’s throat open.

“Why didn’t you ever tell anyone about the two of them?” Izabella asked Leila, looking at her with questioning eyes. Adam himself wondered the same thing. He had a feeling that Leila had known what was going on between Eva and her abusive boyfriend. In the short time Adam had watched his mate he had learned that she told Leila almost everything; including the fact that her thighs were covered in deep gashes due to a razor. Adam growled, he was going to have to talk to Leila about that a different time, that wasn’t information she could keep from him.

“Because she made me promise.” Leila whispered, looking down on the ground before continuing, “She would always look like she was going to cry every time I asked. I wasn’t going to put her through that pain.” Adam snarled, his fists clenching. Why would Leila leave his mate to be abused by a man that could easily have ended her life? Adam glared at Leila, seeing her flinch and hide slightly behind Keilor. The man narrowed his eyes at Adam, daring him to get any closer to his mate. Adam knew he was going to have to keep himself calm or Keilor wasn’t going to be too friendly.

“You should have at least informed me. You knew I was watching her, you could sense me the entire time.” Adam accused and Leila looked away from him, tears leaking from her eyes. When Adam had been keeping an eye on his mate he had regularly seen Leila watching him as he stared at his mate from afar. She had known he was there the entire time and Adam occasionally caught her watching Eva’s house during the night, her eyes every so often catching his gaze. Leila never made a move to approach him but she made it clear that he wasn’t welcome. She may have known he was the Alpha Prince but she seemed to want him away from her friend.
