Chapter 13
(Adam)
By midday Adam was starting to get frustrated. Eva hadn’t said a word to him since they had fought in the bathroom and he had yet to see her face. He was tired of her hiding from him. He hadn’t meant what he said to her, it just slipped out. Adam only feared for her and his half-sisters safety, everything else didn’t matter. If the two of them weren’t safe then Adam was unsure whether he could live happily.
Adam paced his room, trying to figure out a way to win his mate back. He didn’t know how he was going to convince her to talk to him again but he knew it was going to have to be soon. His wolf was getting restless without his mate and he wanted her back already. It had been mere hours and Adam wanted nothing more than to hold her in his arms again. A wolf without his mate was nothing. It was one of the most painful experiences a wolf could ever go through. Without a mate a wolf had no purpose on earth.
The door suddenly opened and Eva slipped in. Adam watched her as she walked around the room, opening her backpack and grabbing her phone and a change of clothes. She turned her back to Adam, slipping off the hoodie and placing it on the floor. Adam watched as she switched shirts, acting as if Adam wasn’t even in the room. Eva slipped off her sweats and pulled on a fresh pair of jeans, zipping them up and turning to look in mirror. She caught Adam’s eye for a moment before brushing out her hair, concentrating on her own reflection. Adam narrowed his eyes, walking toward her until he was pressed up against her. Eva stiffened, still looking at herself in the mirror.
“I need you to talk to me.” Adam whispered in her ear and Eva shivered, her hands clenched into fists. Adam dropped his cane, bringing both of his hands to Eva’s waist and holding her tightly against him. Eva didn’t move, reaching forward and gripping the dresser in front of her for support.
“Leave me alone.” Eva pleaded quietly, looking away from the mirror. Adam shook his head, gently dragging Eva away from the mirror and dresser. Sat down on the bed, placing Eva in between his legs. Eva squirmed in his grip, trying to push herself to her feet. Adam denied her of that, keeping her locked in his arms.
“I said, I need you to talk to me.” Adam ordered, his forehead against his mate’s shoulder blade. She remained still, her heart speeding up as Adam turned his head and pressed his lips against her throat.
“I don’t want to talk to you.” Eva murmured, managing to get herself out of his arms. Her face was bright red and she wouldn’t look Adam in the eye. He got to his feet, watching as she grabbed his cane and handed it to him. Adam raised his eyebrows as she glanced at him before stepping out of the room in a hurry. Sighing Adam followed after her, closing the door quietly behind him. Eva was already halfway down the hallway and Adam had a feeling she was making sure he wouldn’t be able to catch her.
